If you dig deeply on youtube you can find anything...

I'm a jazz noob however i ve found some gold tracks and gold mines channels; just dig several hours and you'll find your stuffs.

Same thing in a record store; listen and dig.

Youtube is a goldmine for samples but you have to accept that everyone is digging down the same routes and finding the same stuff as you. Record shops are the way to go to find rare samples but it takes a lot more time and effort...and money...

If you are digging in a record shop either take a punt if the vinyl is cheap or find a way you can listen to the records before you buy them. A lot of the time if I think the cover is funny/interesting/cool I'll take a hit and see if I get lucky.

I remember watching a documentary about Shadow that said he used to go to a record shop every day and sit in there all day listening to records in the basement. The owner said the only times he saw him were open, close and at lunch when he 'went out to get a McDonalds'.

If you put the time in you will find good stuff!

Also, I don’t think it’s too much different from finding soul samples. There’s key labels like Blue Note which is usually a good sign, and you can eyeball the covers as well look for musicians you recognize ( I found 4 jimmy smith albums last weekend , I didn’t know who he was but one of the albums was with Wes Montgomery so I knew I was good) . I personally stay away from the big bands and look for quartets and trios can’t really go wrong with those

Personally, I love listening for the drummers. i.e. Lenny White. Drummer for Return to Forever. Jazz albums made in the early 70's I assume were recorded through Neve Preamps or Neve EQ's which give the drums ultra sonic goodness.

Just search on youtube for 'old obscure jazz' or 'japanese 70s' like everyone else

Eh that’s not a way to go about it, then you’ll just sound like everyone else . That’s played out

Check out Dr. Lonnie Liston Smith , Charles Earland , Yusef lateef that’s should send you down a rabbit hole

I don't know for the other countries but in France, there are often a music section in the public libraries with a lot CD's (jazz included), CD players and good headphones. I take my sp and sample there. The good point is that CD quality is way better than sampling on youtube + digging is funny. The bad point is that sometimes there are weird people there.
JAZZ CD'S + 404

yep, either you just record samples on your sp or you try to play without doing pad noises : it'll create a new limitation and will give you a new flow
