What's up with library music, I try to find info on what labels to get and stuff but I have difficult time finding info. If anyone can link me to any sort of guide or index of library music I would appreciate it.

Bruton, Themes International, and KPM are inconsistent IMO but they have some really dope shit if you can sift through all the wack stuff. Check em out on Discogs and youtube. Pretty sure you can only find these online.

Yeah library stuff's inconsistent as. Picked up one of the recent KPM reissues & it was all lame compared to first run themed stuff from the late 60s & 70s.

Honestly though- as soon as you see some library music, buy it. While the content may be inconsistent you'll always find something dope on it. KPM's standard was one or two facemelters per side, surrounded by crap. Only got 80s Bruton & it's conflicting: great synths playing crap. Gotta resample that shit hard. Even if you don't find anything on a library LP, that's OK. You'll always be able on-sell it to collecter geeks.

True story, I've seen mint library's going for over $200 a pop.

I've come across a few at record shops, but they got big price tags. Finding them online is easy, but the good ones will have a cult following, thus cost of inflation.
With library records, you'll do a lot of sifting, pay a bunch of money, and then end up with something dope that someone's already used up.
At the source, they were basically put together for films and tv shows to use. So, digging through old VHS tapes, tracking song listing information at the end credits, and putting the VCR to use is a more economical expense and yields some entertainment.

you gonna hit some shops looking for library records or online ?

I would love to get my hands on some but they are way too expensive whenever I find them

Yeah that's pretty much where I'm at, I was just kinda looking for some info. If I come across some library stuff I'll buy it if the price is right.

old thread, i know, but...

even though ive been digging for years, ive never seen a library record in person until this morning, when there was a crate of them at the goodwill. klm, network, and emil ascher. all 80s, lots of crap, plenty of wide open, very usable sounds and a few dope loops. definitely worth it.
