Hey, does anyone know about the frequency of 70's releases that made it to cassette or are most of the vinyl stuff strictly vinyl?

I've noticed it's really hard to find cassettes of anything from earlier than '78 unless it's just really famous material or artist.

I still don't have a turntable so I'm mostly digging for cassettes...while I do find some interesting stuff, it's no where near the epicness of some of the records you guys find.

I find myself super disappointed when I try to dig for cassettes. Vinyl is where its at and that's just how it is.

Just copped a stack of jazz records the other day and some of the CTI and Warner Bros releases say "also available on cassette tape".

Yo, cassettes (I mean the OG copies) are harder to come by than vinyl pressings of the same release.

It's a real shame isn't it. I do dig for cassettes but 95% of stuff out there is bad 80s chart music or classical compilations.

Occasionally I find a gem though. Guess it adds to the fun!

Copped these today, 1$ a piece on tape:

Eric Gale - "Island Breeze" (features Bob James on keys)
Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - "Wake Up Everybody"
Ronnie Laws - "Solid Ground"
Ambrosia - "Life Beyond L.A."
EPMD - "Strictly Business"
Staple Singers - "Chronicle"
Duke Ellington - "Recollections of the Big Band Era"
"Jazz '84: Highlights from the 9th Moscow Jazz Festival"
Herb Alpert - "Keep Your Eye On Me"

The odd one out, I think (haven't listened yet, but did a little wiki lookies after I got back) is Ranking Roger - "Radical Departure". The title, sleeve and track listing sounded quite funky/smooth groovin', but it seems there's lots of punk influence in the lead singer. Maybe I'll get lucky...

:)

Overall, I think I got some good stuff really cheap and so far, these tapes sound immaculate even with Dolby C.

Oh, just forgot to say now and then I stream tapes in their entirety (if the tape doesn't break somehow like last time!) online. If anyone gives two shits, I'll post up a link and time when the next stream will be. I follow the format of playing all A-sides then all B-sides of whatever tapes I have lined up...it's a grab bag, essentially and I don't keep schedules very well, kinda a seat of the pants operation. But if there's any interest here, when I do the next live stream, I'll post up a notice in this thread.

This comic book/action figure shop sells vinyl and tapes, so when I went digging last week I copped a Staples Singers tape and a Smurfs All-Stars tape for 50 cents each.

Love digging through the tapes, mainly because they're dirt cheap; we're talking 4 tapes for an English pound here people :) Whereas at some point in the last decade charity shops etc realised that people are willing to spend £££ on vinyl again and cranked up the prices, tapes are viewed as being obsolete.

Everybody knows about discogs etc so people know the price of things, I've seen them in Oxfam in the back looking on discogs to price things, that why they want £40 for black sabbath records: best one was a red hot chili peppers 7 inch for 60 quid.
