45's at swap meets and flea markets almost always yield some gems, you just gotta be patient and DIG.

If there's like 80 records, comb through every single one of them.

Pray to Dilla
Keep your eyes peeled

and DIG

@soulchoppa wow that sounds shitty idk if ive ever run into that at a record store... definitely seen overpriced records that used to he cheaper before discogs, but all the record stores near me still have the bargain areas with some good shit in them... i got a wes montgomery record for a couple bucks the other day from the epic “used jazz” section at this one in my city

@Ghost Bazz dope findings there yaw !!

I don't go diggin too often these days but when I do I always go for cheap vinyl. The max I can pay is rarely like 10e for a record but usually I go for the mighty 1e (or $).
I second what raphael says about 45s. There's a place selling 7 gritty 45s for 1e. Tried them a few times, found some dope samples. So for like 3e I can do a super dusty 10' mix.
I'm trying to do a series of 10' themed project solely based on those 45rpm digs.
here's part 1 if anyone wants to check it out !
In a few words digging needs more time than money usually, unless one searches for specific samples on rare or expensive records. But maybe that's just me cause I don't target LPs in great condition I let pops n scratches do the work mewooh

Excellent mix rak! Did u get the drums from the same records? It all sounds great. There is a point toward the end that gets very wu-tang’ish. I dug all that dustiness as well. Was this recorded from ur 404 straight to tape?

Sometimes flea markets or antique stores have loads of vinyl, and some are actually reasonably priced. I’ve complained before about Goodwill jacking the prices of some records, but maybe you can spot some cheap ones.

@Ghost Bazz thanks for the word G! I wasn't too clear actually, all samples taken from 7"s but drums came from digital. They're the hardest thing to dig for my empty pocket.
I used a 202 and a 404sx to make all beats in 24h. Recorded on tape then added 606 vinyl sim. When it comes to beats I like challenging myself so I try to figure out puzzling stuff. Limitation gives inspiration (most of the times at least, its all psychology..)

Dope. Great idea for the arena... 24h beat tape challenge! I would b so down for this. Maybe we could make it an entire weekend To make the beats. Digging the records could b part of the challenge. We could say 3-5 records u haven’t messed with before... and all sounds need to come from the records! Let’s do this! Maybe after the heroes v villains tourney.

thanks you too Sharris for checking. SP-forums is a true school, arena battles are always a good opportunity to sharpen the lofi bladez.

@Ghost Bazz that would be a great idea.it might be hard for me to take part but i'll try to.participants will probably not be that many but its ok i guess, even a friendly 1-on-1 could turn into a dope battle. great record dig by the way wow :!:

I'd be down for that challenge! I haven't made a beat tape yet, this would help me with that :) I like the idea of only usin the records as well...

The 1 weekend beat tape challenge! Let's do it!
I agree that there might not be a lot of entries, but if you're down rak. that's 3 already... & even if just 1 or 2 more people joined in that would still be awesome!

Let’s do it. Realistically, a week might b better since people’s beat making hours come at different times. More of a challenge than a battle I think. Yeah! Let’s do it.
