fauna- you flipped it nice with the fx. I like the way you brought in the guitar too around 1:35. enjoyed listening but not my style of beats

hematurge- nice beat. some cool switch ups. nice drum hits too.

deta!l- liked the beat. it was ill the way you used that guitar, only thing it could have used was a kick drum

bishojo command- funky

ig9- what the hell is wrong with you?
but i enjoyed listening to your strange tune

All these beats are flipped so different its hard to compare. After listening to everything an taking a few minutes to think about it I vote for bishojo command.

juxt - thanks for putting this up and linking in the tracks. my thots:

JUXT: like the beat, like the spareness. reminded me of cypress hill, which can only be a good thing. great drum sound too.

HEMA: nice staccato melody, which i like. about 2/3rds of the way thru, you have that 'grainy' violin melody come in, which totally rules.

DETAIL: loooove the guitar loop w/ delay, and the little quiet bits floating around in the background. i'm less into the drum sounds tho.

BISHOJO: first: welcome! this flip was yr first post, which is pretty cool. i really like the balance in tones, there's some great sounds in there, and the intro is hilariously good. are you using a 404, or which device?

IG9: thanks for throwing a track into the battle, mans. i think i understand what yr doing w/ this (lotsa chops, things broken up and weird) and i think its good start, but it didn't feel finished to me. still - good to throw down.

so i guess my vote goes to Bishojo, too.

so thanks to everyone for throwin in on the battle yo. i very much enjoyed being REIGNING KING OF SAMPLE BATTLE NUMBER FOUR. hope whomever wins enjoys the crown as well.

lololol. what's up man. yeah, i did this in like half an hour. my philosophy is: battle. don't be a perfectionist. the first battle i took probably 12 hrs obsessing over chops and such, and while i wasn't totally disappointed i thought the end result was a little stiff. the bud birthday song i pieced together in about 2 hrs of playing with effects and lots of people seemed to dig it. so i don't know anymore i just try to get in there. but yeah, this wasn't really a finished piece. anyway i'll vote in a bit just wanted to address that. thank for throwing the poll up.

juxt: i really liked those 4 bars
hematurge: very funky and i liked how small the chops were. the end remined me if the end of neutral milk hotel's _on_avery_island_
deta!l: very nice. mellow gold
fauna: loved it, nice and metallic / robotbeats
bishojo_command: you have my vote. very professional sounding with good change ups and textures. pro composition. how long did this take you and is that a 404?

reading you all - i think i fucked up -

were you allowed to use compression when recording your output from your 404 to an mp3 file?

if your weren't - then i disqualify myself -

i thought i saw a rule post from IG9(?) talking about using compression and eq in mastering?

this was done all in the 404 and then recorded in one take to the pc (i got frantic and hit pads off time but thought it was only fair to keep them there) - select all - preset compresssion. export mp3. no eq as i don't really understand it properly.

i don't want to be seen cheating on this when everybody put in such good efforts.

will be away for next 2 days - if I am ruled out of battle the moderators can delete this post -

fauna - had my chin dipping from one. liked its development of a hook and come back again. that high strung guitar was wild. the phrase that made the bedrock was tasty to keep me interested listening to on its own.

juxt - strong - unified confident piece - solid as highway. funky stabs coming in sweet. told a whole story bringing things, in and out real subtle - slightly changing the stab phrases over track gives impression it was alive and not mechanical. that little shaker sound does so much.

hematurge - had me thinking of players jamming against each other in a smoky club - delicate sax horns goading each other on to the dummer - then the bridge lays a number on them to outro.

detail - that lazy guitar - then answered by the sweeter one later got me. then the horns gently crying in back. loved the guitar dipping at end for out.

ig9 - loved picking out different sounds as it rolled on - liked the violin tones - and even a flute - it's a nice happy piece that put a smile on me.

if i have a vote it goes to juxt - that damn bass went straight to my guts and gave it a kick.

I think compression is fine going in to get it louder...but I'm new here

I put a limiter on the master as well to try and get it louder

that is very honorable of you Mr. bishojo command- your a true soldier 8)

I do not believe you will be issued a punitive discharge assuming external audio equiptment was not applied to individual tracks.

only if you vote for me.

but seriously - yes, that's the idea. it would be ideal if you battled, but if you wanna vote, go forth.

and battle next time?
