As long as it wouldn't give people an obvious edge, I'd say yes. As long as they are Roland SPs, I don't see a reason to forbid such a thing. :)

I'm not sure about this.... I mean using one SP as a master fx mixing unit is fine, but I think you've got a big advantage if you're allowed to rec your beat to your 2nd sp and add stuff afterwards... I just don't see why this is allowed with an SP but not with a computer?! I'm not trying to kill your concept man... it's just that I always wanted to do some external recording as well and bring that ish back to the SP and yeah I always was a bit pissed of the 555 dudes having loop capture. :x .. but in the end I don'T care that much; though it would be more than fair imao...

dear Wax, i think the time has come to make a battle/duel, eheh... :)

seriously, i think that if we use another sp only for mastering this is not a problem. compressing+eq is ok. I used different sps sampler only for fx, but after your battle#49 observation i asked here if this was right.
i know however that sp-303 people don't have the awesome sp-404 subbass/looper fx...and sp-404 people don't have sp-505 useful pitch scale function...
...so maybe we could do separate battles like, for example, sp-303 battle, sp-404 battle etc...and how many moderators to do that? or maybe we have to simply remake rules?

i know that in the mpc forums they do something like this (separate battles for each mpc models). don't get me wrong guys, i don't want sp-forums copy mpc-forums, that's only an observation.
is sp-forums ready to go in that direction?
peace

Hmmm, I would keep it as it is. It's probably a bad idea to do battles for each sampler, like 303 battle, 404 battle and so on, because there are more people entering the battles if it's with all SPs. A 303 versus 303 battle isn't a lot of fun when there are only 4 people joining. :p

I think Wax has made a good point though, perhaps (with the exception of mastering / eq etc. ) it would indeed give people too much of an advantage to use two or more SPs. But hey if you want to chop up samples on a SP555 or SP303, there's virtually no difference and some FX sound the same too. So it's more the advantage of processing your patterns with additional FX (aka resampling the entire patterns).

Ultimately I wonder if musically it would matter all that much, probably not as the skillful SP people still can easily make beats that are better than someone less experienced or skillful who makes beats on an MV. :)

Definitly man! I could program way more complex and better sounding drumpatterns for example... but anyway if you guys want it the real hard way, I'm down with that, too. 8)

All I really need is pitch shifting, though external recording shouldn't be such a big deal...

Maybe we could try an open battle in the future; just for the fun of it?!
MV's and SP's without any limits...

Nah man, even just one person complaining should be enough not to allow it I think. :) It shouldn't ruin the spirit of the SP battles.

Yeah, that would be very cool, but I would prefer it as a 'side-battle' kind of thing. Remember the 'christmas' battle thing? A bit like that. :)

i know i haven't participated in a while but for what it's worth i vote against allowing multiple sps. seems like the guys with one box could take it kinda harsh...

then we start having to factor in "well can i use my external midi controller" and stuff like that.

I think that external midi controllers should be allowed to level the playing field. If SP-606 users can take advantage of velocity sensitive pads then SP-404 users should be able to have the same opportunity. It's just plugging a velocity sensitive controller to the midi in.

Although i rarely join a battle,I suggest , to make things simple that anything could be allowed as long as it's only made from sp...
I totally disagree using a computer...

i think what it means is you cant use the stock sounds (samples on the pads) that came with the SP but you can use any sound that comes with the SP fx, for example vinyl crackle, static from the radio fx, subbass.
