Voting is over. The winner has been announced. Click here.

The battle has ended, time to vote!

Battle 55 got a whopping 32 entries! I haven't managed to listen to them all yet, but I've heard some very nice tracks.

Here's what we're going to do: each active forum member gets to nominate 10 people. Or less, if you want. The forum software does allow to vote for yourself so you can do that if you really want to.

However, you have to reply in this topic with your choices and give feedback on why you voted for these beats. Otherwise your votes won't count. It's also appreciated if you leave feedback for the beats you didn't vote on!

Take your time, you have 4 days to listen to all tracks and vote. You are also able to change your votes within those 4 days.

Lastly, please check your beat is in the box and in the poll options. Also make sure it's playing okay from beginning till the end.

Here are the tracks:

or visit this page (don't forget to visit page 2 as well!)
Thanks to elhuana for collecting all beats.

Or download the MP3s here:
RAR format: http://www.mediafire.com/file/z3ynonjyg ... ttle55.rar
ZIP format: http://www.mediafire.com/file/mymgkuzm1 ... ttle55.zip

The top 10 will receive a faceplate, either a red or black one. The #1 gets both red and black.
Like stated in the original topic, we're only able to send the prize to a US-address.

After the 4 days of voting it should be pretty obvious who the winners are because the poll results are shown continuously. However, I will have to verify all votes first, so until my announcement nothing is official yet.

PS
We double checked everything, but it's still possible we forgot to include a beat or perhaps used an old one. If this is the case, email me ( [email protected] ) as soon as possible and I will get it fixed and let everyone know so they can reconsider their votes.)

Happy voting!

Notes:

  • adru: i just resampled all chops and drums like 22 times w every mfx.then filtered & compressed the sp's bass tones, did some in box eqing, seperator, center cancelling...to top it off i applied mfx 12 2 everything been up all god blessed night
  • Amable: Here it is! The name of the track is "The Red Mask". I used the drums from the first sample and various chops from the second track. The bass line was made using the subsonic effect. All of this was then dropped into Garageband. Take a listen and tell me what you think!
  • Antee: my track is a classic boom bap joint, i hope you dig it... i've used my infamous SP-404 for chopping samples, editing (all efx) and sequencing, i've rec my beat from the sp into my pc with Acid Pro 6.0, then i apply a compressor/limiter (the Blockfish comp, a great free compressor suggested by the supa-producer Dj Frantic... you can download it at http://www.digitalfishphones.com) on the master and at the end i eq my track a little bit with a simply 4 band eq.
  • BlackSnow: Do not judge strictly... The first time I participate in such fight))) basically only MC battle. And my sound card not so good!!! Badly writes down!!!
  • COMPUTERS: Made using only the SP-404 and recorded to a 4-track cassette recorder.
  • Count Sierackula:
  • Creep Nasty: All 404 with a little mpc2kxl to pitch a couple samples.
  • dibiase 1: i took a stab at it. well this beat is all 404 then dumped into cubase sx 3. all efxs are from the 404. the bass is from the kick drum with subsonic efx on from the break on sample 1. the sythn is from sample 2, and all the drums is from sample 1.
  • Dj_just_jeff: chopped and sequenced in sp-404. Recorded into sp-303 w/effects.
  • dman5000: ive been busy but i finished mine up.. i used sp 404 mainly and used zoom sampletrak for some effects and roland ef 303 for compressor at the end.
  • Doctakay: I kept it simple, so I kept it simple on the recording front too, not too long:
  • elhuana: Pure sp-404 track recorded into one track ( reaper software ), here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwWdq_b4zWo
  • ellaguru: main machine used: Boss sp-505. other: Boss sp-303 (compression), Akai remix 16 (the sound passing trough).
  • fauna: i took big hunks of the two samples and sampled them into the sp-505. then i did all the chopping, filtering, pitching, arranging and stuffs all on the 505.
  • iG9: all 404
  • IIIII: all 404 recorded to an onkyo tape deck
  • j.griz: I used both samples and only my 404. Most of the samples have been tinkered beyond recognition. I will give feedback on every beat posted in the poll section once the battle closes. Props to everyone chopping the shit outta this.
  • JayLost: just the 555 recorded into live 7 and added a little compression and whatnot
  • Jmoki: all 303
  • jonwayne: Only used my trusty 404 and streamed the samples off my computer into the sampler, then recorded to my 8 track.
  • juxt: straight out the SP404 into audacity no external mixing or mastering, no other equiptment used. used both samples
  • kel: (404 no chaser)
  • Lazyfoot23: All 404, this little bastard can sure do alot
  • Oaxaca: i was inspired by Diabase to turn off quantize
  • ormo: i sampled edited and arranged 100% sp-505
  • recorded into wavelab and converted into an mp3.
  • [b]project waxwick: sp-404 and mv-8800... did a lot of bouncing between the two... resampling w/ efx... used the mv bass synth, but otherwise it's all from the samples
  • sp404beatz: My equippment: SP-404
  • SteveC: Made on a SP-404 with both samples then recorded to a Boss Micro BR.
  • Teewok:
  • timfromtexas: so ive never participated in a battle ever... which is a shame on my part... but i wanted to at least contribute just to contribute because of the good cause... i cheated left and right and broke rules at every chance i got but did it knowing i wasnt going to act like i did it all with my 404... i cut up the samples with audacity and any and all pitching and effects were done on my esx.. i used my 404 to record the patterns from my esx with the vinyl sym on... and i threw the opening sample in there for laughs with audacity... the cheating i did didnt do anything for me seeing as my song is still not really up to par and really an experiment with song mode on my esx which i had never used before tonight.. again i stake no claim in the runnings for either color of faceplate i only wanted to contribute to be another number in the hype for this special project..
  • Wax Inspektor: so here is my quick reaper 303 session... *still warm* all fx are 303/404 ...even the fades... but too many weird breaks .. i know... first experience with the 303 and ext. sequencer... still learning you know.. there used to be a another d'n'b smash down part in it ...but i rather get drunk and overthink all this music ishnizz...
  • wundrkut: heres mine, straight 303 then dumped into ableton. i used both samples. drums and horn stab from the break that iiii posted. synth and bass from waxinspektor's

(let me know if something isn't right or if I forgot to add your note)

Don't worry about that, the forum voting system doesn't actually allow multiple votes for one person, instead you'll need to pick 10 unique ones from the 32. :)

( PS. For those who wonder, yes I did make a beat, no it's not finished, but I will post something hopefully tomorrow. Means I'm not in this battle. ;) )

We'll need some US based volunteers for that. I'm not sure if Roland is going to act crazy when they see for example multiple wins on a single US address, but hopefully we can work things out publicly.

Unless someone else beats me to it while I'm asleep, I'll make a download first thing tomorrow. Got to catch some sleep now though, sorry. :(

(Also multiple Box.net accounts might be a good idea with 32 beats. It's perhaps going to burn the allowed max. free bandwidth in no time.)

wundrkut beat slaps and the chops is crazy. so far thats my fav on some head knodfactor .theres alot of others to mention ormo beat takes me back to some el p shit not sayin he soundin like him, but it has that dirt to it. but on some creative shit takin the sample somewhere else totally opposite to me was computer ,and steve c turnin that into some drum n bass thats insane. jon wayniac always improvin on the production he thought me some tricks on the 404 a matter of fact. thought his track was raw maybe he'll drop a verse on it . wax inspector came with a dope beat for the last min. man i wonder how crazier it would be he started on weeks ago.lol but overall i like the dark feel and heavy drums. ill be givin more input on other beats i gotta soak it all up 30 tracks damn !!!! but it amazes me how everyone has a different approach with every beat.

If the box.net thingie doesn't work, try this page instead. Keep in mind their is a page 2 as well!

I will try and create a .zip with all the beats in it later this day (unless somebody else beats me of course).

You're correct, you can give one vote only to 10 different people.

Hmm, that's strange. Could you double-check? You should be abel to edit your votes.

That's fine with me, as long as the winner himself supplies me with an US address. Who's address that is doesn't really matter. If it is someone elses though, please let me know.

seriously crazy entries from absolutely everyone! yall should be proud of all the hard work that was put into these tracks and the outcome!!!

adru - epicmatic indeed. serious props man this is a heater for sure and on my top favorites. i really liked your drums/change ups and sample processing. you flipped this HOARD!

amable - i really liked the change up at the half way mark.

antee - cool chops

black snow - i would have liked it a bit louder.

computers - i like how you flipped the guitars. drop this at a bboy/girl jam this will do more than fulfill the need to keep them sneakers rocking!

count sierackula - pretty dark

creep nasty - cool snare processing, & nostalgic feeling chops

dibiase 1 - my favorite from the get go. all around put together nicely. intro gets your attention(thinking to myself some shit is about to drop!), so smooth when the hi hats come in. i didnt notice the reverses the first time i listened to this. the delay/stutter and wah-wahs shit is sick man. i like how you eq'd? the snare on the 2nd part of the beat along with the beastly drum rolls.

dj just jeff - dope beat, the drums remind of some early dj shadow.

dman 5000 - cool how you picked up the tempo towards the end.

doctakay - riding that bassline!

elhuana - another favorite right here. great use of the drum rolls, and open hi hat. your track mutes are off the hook! very nice dirty snare. this shit is bumpin! watched the live youtube version as well. the guitar and synth chops are killer. ps thanks for the pm much appreciated!

ellaguru - these are bad ass drums man. very dark mood, your hi hat/snare processing is dope too. i also like how your sounds fade in at the beginning then something phaseshifts? and it drops!

faunaflage - fellow canadian, great work! i like your bassline and im a fan of the change up with the strings.

IG9 - some interesting patterns with the delays/tape echo.

IIII - when i listen to this i think of somebody entering the wrestling/mma ring this a heater definitely. some serious sound processing going here. wicked synth and bass chops. also like how you changed the kick at the end, along with the mini interlude.

jaylost - i like this breakdown, not sure how you processed your chop at the middle here. but it sounds dope. keep it up!

jgriz - sweet minimal chops. and dope use of slicer/flanger? brush/open hat are cool fillers too.

jmoki - i wish this was a bit longer. killer drum patterns with the echo/delay/looper?

jonwayne - dope headnod factor right here playing with the strum and synth patterns. killer chops, feeling that change up and also the warped sounds you go in there. im a fan of that dirty short snare too.

juxt - audio two influence props!! i like the sound of this dirty snare too.

kel - props on your 1st beat too with the southern flavor. this one is riding dirty too. flipped the snare to a rimshot, some of your synth chops sound like a cello, digging how you made a horn stab and the flippage of the guitar/horn on the break.

lazyfoot23 - solid beat all around. i like how your horns and guitar weave in/out of your track. sick double kicks.

oxaxca - cool pitch work.

ormo - feeling that dramatic intro, sounding like somebody is warming up the spaceship for take off. love the off the grid drums. definitely like how you made those "piano" hits. i like the 2nd part of your beat too. your chops/loops with the samples are nutty!

project waxwick - came with the psychadelic breakbeat.

sp404beatz - pretty dope. like the use of the drum roll sample.

steve c - came with the jungle steez!! i like that first synth sound that comes in, it feels good. crazy wave/space sounds. like how you flipped the guitar/synth sample. crazy dope how you slowed it down too.

teewok - my other canadian homie! i really liked your first one too. it was on some bboy/girl jam tip. the re up is a banger too. dope use of the guitar chops and the phat synth.

timfromtexas - nice bluesy feel with your guitar chops. the horn echos fit with a nice touch.

wax inspektor - very gritty sounding drums! thats a dope beam sound you got around the middle where everything drops out. and then the track drops back.
