hello, what are the rules to enter a beatbattle concerning the drums?
do you have to chop up the breaks into kick/snare/hihat/claps & create a new pattern or do have to just loop one of the breaks?
is the difference in "difficulty" (and time spent) taken into consideration when the tracks are judged?

i'm a bit late to enter this one, but i'm might join in on one later, seems good fun.

btw dope samples!

Winner of the previous battle makes the rules (you can see here, for example, in the first post), but for general rules you can check the post concerning it.
You can chop the drums anyway you like, either take the elements (kick, snare, hihat) from the provided sample and create your own beat (like I did for this battle), or loop and twist the original. Doesn't matter (unless it's stated otherwise).
I think it's up to listeners to decide on which track deserves a vote, we all listen to, and get moved by, various things.

On a different note, fuck me some SICK tracks here.. My favourite battle so far

Yea, what LoopmantrA said.....the rules are in the 1st post. Main rule is you have to use an sp to make it, in this battle you can also use other instruments for additional sounds (like synths, guitar, whatever). All sp forum members can vote, I just recently learned this I thought you had to enter the battle to vote.

When I vote I try to go by skill & how much I like the beat....sometimes I like a beat more because I feel it was skillfully done, sometimes it's creativity that sways me. It's hard to vote, theres good beats in these battles (esp this one...wooh!) seems everyone chops up what they use....I'm sure loopin a break is fine, but if the sp ninjas hear it you might suffer the wrath

Actually I joined the sp forum because the people seem really cool..... laid back..... not a lot of judging. It's about the music & havin fun.

You should enter! I put off the arena for awhile & wish I would've battled sooner. I'm improving so much because of it.

@Ultra3200 Not to beat a dead horse but do it. It’s exactly a year today I got my SP and these battles helped immensely. I did many without publishing them to learn my flow until i finally started handing in my assignments.

And yeah this round is tight, great samples and beats. Loved the two week deadline but still ain’t gonna make it.

I would say extend the deadline, but I want to be fair.
I think it would be cool to do a part 2 tho 8)
There's enough sample material.... I plan on making a beat for each song anyways. If there's interest I'm down. I'm enjoying hearin what everyone comes up with too......listening to all your beats is part of the fun

Don't extend for me, I just meant I like two weeks cause I thought I’d have time. Loving that analog heat, that’s good stuff!

My NON-Entry: https://soundcloud.com/deveets/spbb256

Samples:
mama and papa vocal part and a guitar stab from the begginingish
A loop from the japanese joint
and a kick snare and hat from the drums

Mastered, panned, tracked it out, and added a couple fades and drop outs in ableton. Should i be disqualified? I'll leave you boys to deliberate... fuck it i hate sequencing on the 505 lol

Actually I only gave "2weekends", total of 10 days :?
I'll put the poll up Monday afternoon, around 4 Washington time, so if anyone else wants to enter, do it before the poll goes up.

& if anyone happened to make a beat or wants to, but didn't make the deadline, not that it matters, but I would love to hear it :) Shit, this battle is worthy of a beat tape, every beat is straight fire if you ask me

Above beat, did you make it on the 505? Just added fades? Mastering is fine. I haven't listened yet, but I'm too nice, so yes, let's leave it up to the boys to decide :)

I basically used Ableton as a 4track and sequencer

Is sequencing in ableton easier than on the 505? The 505 is by far my favorite sequencer of all the SP’s. Multi-track w track muting, song mode and swing, if i remember correctly. Haha... come on now. Utilize that 505! It’s worth diving into if u haven’t already.

As far as the rules... I just re-read Sharris’ original post. Tracking it out is within the terms of this battle... computer sequencing is pretty clearly outside the rules. Not trying to hate, but that’s the fundamental concept of these battles. Work within the SP’s limitations.

The open challenges provide a chance to bring in outside gear or hardware.

It’s a cool beat though. U could still throw it up as a non-entry.

Thanks! Consider it a non-entry

As for my gripe with the 505 sequencer, I used it a lot when i first got my 505 but it always felt like a chore, so i just started using resampling method. I guess its time to revisit the in box sequencer. I'll catch yall at the next battle

Sad to say I spent hours on this last night and ended with a pretty simple beat, but I wanted to get something up.

Made with the sp404 and slapped an ODB accapella on top.

I look forward to listening to all these other beats now. Thanks.
