Sine vs Saw! This one is all about the waves.

Open to all synths, hardware or software, virtual or analog. Your composition must prominently feature either the smooth sounds of a sine wave synth or the cutting power of a sawtooth synth. Or use both. Please explain your approach towards sine vs saw, as well as your production method with your track.

Here’s a link that explains the waveform concept: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Sound_Syn ... Wavetables

Usual rules apply... all seq & arrangement needs to be on the SP. No musical/instrumental samples allowed except for drums. Vocal 1-shots & dialogue are good, but no full verses. EQ & comp can be applied to final mix via computer. Roughly aim for 2:00 time limit.

Deadline is a week from Sunday.

thingy

started with a low end sine, came up with the bass hits. sequenced the drum loop. played more sine synthlines randomly and chopped what sounded decent. switched to a sawtooth but moved the peak of the wave a bit forward, and tried to jam a 'solo' with higher notes. chopped a few pieces from that as well, eq'd the whole mess, recorded to tape and then back.

the effect of the sawtooth could've been more prominent I think.

^I like it. Lots of cool sounds in there.

What kind of synth, or sound module are you working with?

My little serving: https://soundcloud.com/duncan-maybury-1/distant-feeling

Started off deciding on a tempo, made a basic beat to work around, picked FXPatch c74 on my SP808, did some menu diving, VCO1 a trangle with a modified pulse width VCO2 a sine wave with course detuning of 24, and a VIB of 48 main Synth line is just a couple of notes played off my Midi keyboard. Made a proper beat to replace temporary one. A bit of mucking about with BIT Rates delay etc, a small lead line from my VOLCA FM which is all sine waves and then a bit of help from one of my favourite scientist Rupert Sheldrake.

Guys, I'm not participating on this one, but I wanted to share what I did. What happened is that I read the rules some days ago and today when I sit to compose, I thought that I knew the rules, well... I didn't XD. So, I'm totally out of the thing, but I liked the theme so much and liked the result of what I did, so, sorry for posting, but I really wanted to share.

Last week (I think) I recorded some chords on tape and made loops with them. I recorded everything. I used three of them on this track, they are these weird pads that you can hear in the background. I used two "physical" saws as well lol. I downloaded a chainsaw sample and a regular saw sample and made then percursive.

Beside of that, I used a simple sine with reverb and delay and two saw waves kinda close to each other on their aspect but applied different eq and stuff. Since I started with an improvisation on the chords, they ended kinda static but kinda having some movement, so, from this came the name of the song.

I like the track. What exactly is outside the rules?

Here's mine. MC-307 + SP-808. The 307 was used as a tone generator basically, being controlled by the pads of the 808 and outputting directly into the 808. I used a sine wave synth for the bass that was then processed. The main line with a bouncy delayed synth is also a sine wave. No sawtooth.

Probably not really qualified as it is pretty long. After the last track I made I felt inspired to do another version with some bars from one of my favorite UK collectives The Four Owls. Thought I would post it here so at least someone hears it and might enjoy it. Cheers
