i still didn't get the idea of those synth battles...i have to understand better what is it a synth battle...i mean, the concept is very wide seeing it as it (no polemics intended)

I guess the idea would be, you usually start with a sample on a sampler (generally someone else's music). Here we are starting from scratch. Making our own sounds, melodies, chords, etc. Yes, it is a wide concept, giving people a lot of freedom, but also restraint if they are more used to making tracks with sampled music instead of instruments. It is also giving people a chance to play with hardware/software that they don't usually get to in a SP battle. For me, I approached the synth battle with the idea that I could write a song in a specific key, whereas I don't always know what key something is when I sample it, because I'm not as good of a musician as I am a beatmaker. So I see it, rather than a sample challenge it's more of a skill challenge, using synths as the instruments.

Props to you, ellaguru. I've learned a lot from your old sampletrak post all over the web. Do you still have the ST-224?

Second that. I recently pulled out my sampletrak to freshen up my setup and ellaguru immediately came to mind. What ever happened to the sampletrak forum?

To build on what Hungryman said... another major draw is that it avoids any potential for burnout on sample hunting/chopping. I really do love that part of the craft, but with time being in such short supply, it's nice to just sit down and jam something out. I usually don't mess with battles where an entire album is posted just because I know I will spend hours combing through the material... and if I'm going that deep, I'd rather be swimming through my own vinyl collection.

Thanks for the votes! I'll try to come up with something clever between now and tomorrow mid-day for the next round.

i uderstand that, i prefer loop battles where there is one limted song or just one portion of it, like that one can see what possibilities has given (on not) with fx/chopping/building on SPs

@HUNGRYMAN: Thanks! yes, the machine is still with me, one of my preferred samplers; glad to see that those posts finally served to something : )
@Ghost Bazz: thanks, unfortunately the administrators had some issues with the site...hope 4formal, Lodger and and the founder Juxt could read this, they're (were?) also on the SP-forums
anyway that forums is always on line, who knows...
