since i've been on here i've never seen anyone post any soul joints for the battles-which is one of my favorite things to do-though the last few months i've been staying away from mid-late 70's stuff-its become so cliche-and flipping a lot of songs from the early-mid 60's..this is one that i made a rough beat out of about 6 months ago,but never finished, erased it and kind of forgot about.the songs mad dope though, and you really don't even need any extra drums, depeniding on how you flip it,but these would compliment the song pretty well i think...what did someone say a few weeks ago,"get your dilla on"? here you go,#23 is underway..

the song is by The Webs-"It's So Hard to Break a Habit"

That's how I see it.
Playing with samples, I hope you'll find it more interesting than my previous beat :P
Most of the sequences were played "live", as I'm not really into Reaper or other Strictly-Recording software.
Cheers,

Uhm, the rule usually is no software sequencing, editing and so on except recording, it's supposed to be strictly SP. I take it you only used software to record, right?

As for the beat, it's pretty good. I like it, but it's sometimes a few milli seconds off beat. Nice swing in the sample usage, but because you change the bpm it more often than not sounds a bit weird.

I'd recommend you to chop the sample in a lot more pieces and especially chop a drum kit out of the drums... lay down a drum pattern first and then mess with the samples on top of that.

Anyways, it's better than your first. :)

I used Reaper only for recording.
I did it "partially", it means that at first I recorded the first sequence which ends up with this "uuuuUuUUUU", and click stop, then I prepared my next set of samples, played em in record mode, and so on. I hope it's allowed ;p
It's sometimes off the beat cuz I was playing mostly 4 bars 'live' without much quantizing :)
I changed the tempo sometimes but I did it deliberately to hear from ya that it sounds a bit weird ;)
Thanks for your advices and opinion plus I'm waitin for your vision of this record :)
