So bass counts as the one other instrument? also can you put a download link for the song on soundcloud?

bass only counts as the extra instrument if its external bass.
and i'll record and upload the file after work tonight, about 4 hours from now.

From Ra/Moondog to Braxton - keeping it on the jazz-fringes, nice to carry on a theme.. always felt John Zorn was trying too hard, esp. with Naked City, but those drums could be useful (like that they're drenched in reverb, should make for some interesting chops)

So when you all say only one "extra instrument" (eg bass) that includes samples, skits/clips etc or is this a 'nothing outside' battle? (That'd be fun, it's been a while since we did that...)

Someone needs their morning coffee:1. whytf are you allowed to use other equipment for timestretching & pitch?
2. Are cats gonna just make two chops and a drum loop and jack off all over it with dj-looper and pitch fx, maybe bury it all under a haystack of hiss to hide how goddamn musically philistine they are and then bask in the glory of being labelled fx-muthafucking-ninja i don't fucking know man.. i just know i ain't falling for it, and if that's the style that gets the props round here well then you 404-cats can make a separate 404-battleground and have yrselves a little circle-jerk cause the 808 don't play that. Oh, oh, wait - i could lube myself up by using Ableton..!! (see point 1 above)

I like that you bring this up lif, If anyone wants to have a calm conversation, I would love to hear what you all have to say. I'll be the first to admit, that i've gotten away with using ableton to pitch my vocals on a few tracks on here. The workflow is intuitive and practical. For the most part no one could point it out, or simply don't give a shit what I used. I feel that lowkey a lot of cats come to mind with this approach. No shame! People have an old school mentality here(generalization). Which is also fine. I was able to grow with this forum starting with only a 404, now i've moved on to exploring DAW's and treating them like instruments. I recently recorded my grandfather's funeral with my 404, just silence. Recording seems to be the only things where i have control over my life. But that's really all i use my 404 now for, recording, apply fx.

I know i kinda went off on a tangent, but yeah, I would love to hear what you all have to say about what lif brought up? should we all make a 404 circlejerk here? (obviously joking)

no extra samples, just an extra instrument. ya know like guitars and keyboards and shit..
and timestretching on the 404 slices the sample. and I think some cats like to pitch it on its way to the SP, so might as well allow it. i don't think it makes much difference.

hey, rules were made to be broken. do what you want

I was just thinking the same thing recently. I'll set one up soon if that's cool with everyone. I think I have a good idea for one.

made a recording for sample material to go with your beat for this battle you mean? if its a recording of an instrument, it abides by the rules. otherwise it does not, but like I said, the rules are not to be taken seriously. I regret making any rules at all, to be honest

-edit- disregard this message.. I had forgot about the mention of the SP challenges

which I failed at.
instrument is a very broad word. it was meant in the traditional sense with additional synths.. saw a rhyme and had to use it. please don't confuse it.

-edit- disregard this retard
