Sure, still I'd like to point out how valuable it is to get suggestions. I once learnt something really wise. When showing your work to people, never ask for affirmation "what do you think", instead ask "how can I make this better". In that way you invite people to bring their creativity along to push you forward.

Alnitak Kid - complete track, not just a beat... death by beat.
Yon. - minimal lo-fi. ash to ash - hiss to noise.
Asha C - dramatic sound track for the last journey
gis_sweden - Hmmm came out to noisy, but i still like the piano with massive reverb. ambient farewell. It is quite ok to reflect over your own beat. Nice initiative lif!
JangleSoul - oh I really like your concept. makes it feel ok to move on.
FreshSerfPro - soft mellow slow nice. a worthy good bye.
Rak - real pleasant. like dingeling sounds. funeral bells - very small thou
Unfolding - fresh sound popping up among the lo-fi beats. master mastering skills? well produced requiem.
Lif - like the parallel between loops and reincarnation. Nice to have a looped choir at your funeral.

Alnitak Kid you should be rewarded for you hard work with the sampler. Winner! :!:

have always voted, but I'll try to actually write something as well:

Alnitak: Proper full track with progression, like others have said.
Yon: learn how to do variations dumb dumb, zzzz
asha: really uncomfortable vibe, with that distortion. a sad dream and then you suddenly snap back with that 6-sec ending.
gis_sweden: as a track this one didn't quite grab me. theme-wise it does deliver the spooky-spookness.
janglesoul: that hummed bassline worked out really well! slow and strong.
fresh: i don't think I'd have the patience to do this kind of flip
rak: groove on point, an Dr. Octagon -style interlude. lovin that pitched rattling
unfolding: nice mixing and layers, pretty hectic even at first listen.
l i f: such a weird trip, feel like it could've used some low end though, to balance the eq.

Right now I'm voting Alnitak too, that bass seals the deal...followed by asha and Rak. ...but I guess it's a pretty clear victory anyways, congrats!

I feel bad...while I don't have an SP which means I can't battle unless it's open (and also, I've just been ridiculously low on time), I can at least do my duty as a citizen of SPFam and vote...

Makes sense to me. I should have set the poll for 2 days instead of 4.

Whoah, gotta catch up on this vote (even if we all know who's got this round)... Based on Jangle's wise words re: encouragement I'm going to comment with positives and negatives, so please take it as encouragement. We'll never get better if we never address issues, right?

Alnitak: Really like the way this flows, def the most song-like tune of the battle. The piano chops are mostly killer. Only catch is it gets a bit dissonant with the counter melodies (the bassline kinda works against the piano chops).
Yon: Not bad with the sludgemode vibe & the wah/vibrato is slick. The drums could've used a bit of work though, maybe the tempo's a bit slow for me (yeah I know it's meant to be a funeral march though).
Asha C: Whoah, that distortion's nice, heavy mood mang. Well done! Want more of that ending rhodes to balance the song a bit & the piano stabs were a bit too persistent. Persistant? How do you spell that again? Damn, too lazy to spell check.
Gis_Sweden: You're one reliable Swede, mate! That abstract tip of yours gets stronger as time goes on, but I just want to hear you chuck a proper rhythm under one of your tunes or develop things. This would make a good intro/outro.
Janglesoul: Man I want to like this more than I do, the whistling was a nice bit of Morricone worship & the sparse production was real tasteful. But the hummed bassline got annoying & the beat was a bit too sparse. Maybe I need to hear this drunk & alone at 3am for it to click.
Freshserf: Bold move making some of those synths so forward & nice attempt at a wandering melody. Pity the chops were gated too short for the tempo. Not sure if the subtle tempo changes work & the funeral march rhythm's a bit laboured (am I missing the point again? Probably).
Rak: Good use of the drums here & it's good to hear you make those synths work. Actually really like this one too, if you put in a change-up or switched the melody a bit more you'd have the best beat of the round.
Lif: Whoah! Dude, your opening rhythm's SICK! Wait, what happened with the core samples this round? Did I miss something in &Ada's pack? 'Spose your take on this is to make the funeral/wake a party eh? The best funerals are the ones where we celebrate life, rather than mourn death. I want more of the first 35 seconds.

Voted Alnitak because that's not just a beat, that's a song. Congrats on the win!

Appreciate all the kind words from everyone here. It's always good to get that little bit of validation, but don't forget to tell me if any part of my tunes need work or just plain suck. It's really hard to self-assess sometimes.

@HS: There's nothing stopping you from flipping the samples in whatever you've got spare. Nobody minds if you're honest when the rules are SP only. See you next round!

Nice feedback, Unfolding (and to others who've taken the time..!!)
Seems we're all pretty much on the same page when it comes to wanting to make better music with limited means :)

ANyways, to address your question man, i took advantage of &Ada's rule-variation that outside samples were okay and couldn't help but slip in the Brion Gysin and the acapella version of Unchained Melody I found in my album collection - it all just seemed to fit so well. Opening rhythm is &Adas' drums and piano samps, and the 50's vox are all the way through, but I agree with both you and (Yon I think) who said it needs more bass in the latter section, - I'm thinking something as simple as a kick on the 1 2 3 4... or somehow eq so the existing bass pumps a bit more.

Personally I like the different elements, but in order to be a composition I needed to loop each section a few more times so the ear has a chance to understand the logic of whats going on... as it is i think the composition is a bit of a mess.... too short, and a little unbalanced. I may fix it and upload an extended mix now that I've had a chance to listen properly to my track and take in the constructive feedback you've all provided, if i don't get distracted by STBB... And yeh - to transliterate a favourite Bulgarian song of mine, Ako Umram:

When I die
When I pass over
Don't feel sad for me
Dance at my graveside
The night long
Fill yourself with red wine
And smash the glasses

Congrats to Alnitak Kid - southern hemisphere killed it this time round!!

Peace!
