Alright fam... inspired by the last round of open challenge and the concept of releasing the beats as a mixtape, I started a bandcamp page: http://sampleprosunlimited.bandcamp.com

The concept is to release a mixtape for each group of Open Challenge beats. The winner of the previous round will set the new guidelines for the next challenge (just like the regular challenges), and be responsible for creating the cover art during the course of the battle. It would probably be good to maintain some consistency from cover to cover, and we can do that either just by the name (including SPU, Volume#: Theme), or possibly have a logo or something. The name I threw up is based on the suggestion made by aD in the voting thread... using SP for the basis, adding the U to make the name "Sample Pros Unlimited". I think this works, and I'd like to avoid spinning our wheels debating names and what not... but of course this concept is still developing, so any feedback is welcome.

I like keeping the "SP Forums" reference off the bandcamp page, as it preserves the inner circle of the forums and allows us to share our music under the identity of a creative collective.

I'm going to work on an album cover for this first set and should have something up there in the next couple days.

What do you guys think... ?

Yes..this is mad dope...i definitely think it's a good idea to leave sp-forums out of it-we wouldn't wanna be conceived as some strictly internet/bedroom music dudes, which most of us aren't(not that there's anything wrong with that,we all have responsibilities more important than music)...also though-i think it's very important to maintain a high quality level of beats-which this current open challenge is such a good example of (whats up w the only 10 votes btw?) BUT -say a newcomer comes in and is obviously a novice,as many of us were when we started on the sp-i think if a beat is obviously way behind the others in terms of quality,we should be free to say "hopefully next time"-thats kinda stepping into dangerous territory like the admbmb thread, but then again this wouldn't be an open music forum-this would hopefully be something that could have the potential to help us build as not just a collective, but individually as well-not only that, but show those that don't know that in the right hands,sp's can keep up with any beatmaking gear out there.so we would wanna be looked at as seriously as possible-i.e.,regardless of style, everythings gotta be dope.Eventually we could even start sending some of the releases to web sites & indie music magazines/papers for reviews and shit like that.Besides all that though,i think this a great idea with a lot of potential,& could be a lot of fun....too bad myspace died..or should i say was killed.

what about only the tracks that receive votes get on... unless they are good tracks worth including- like as you said we had very little votes and I think we should include them all this time around

didn't even think of that, that would be the perfect way-if one person feels something, then there's a lot of others guaranteed to as well, great idea...& yea, whats the deal with the voting?I mean i know the polls open till monday, but it seems like there's usually more votes than this 3 days in..

I'm really glad somebody is running with this idea....I had a similar thought awhile back about reaching out on a few forums about forming some sort of wu-tang-esque super group of electronic artists who collaborate on songs or even do individual stuff packaged as a set. As stated before, just for the experience, learning from others, but also a nice way to get a toe in the door somewhere maybe and get heard or appreciated at a wider level.

Now I gotta cook up something good for the next challenge, hmmm

hehe..

1: http://spsociety.bandcamp.com/

2: http://sampleprosunlimited.bandcamp.com/

kinda weird, esp. because releasedates differ

but overall its a great idea and a logical step, to take
all those peaces of music, produced for each battle and archive them.
cause eg the album uploaded is to good to be forgotten like it'd be 'just'
a battle..
