i heard that the guys who make a lot of the one shot sample CD's just go through actual songs and releases and nab the snares and add a little processing to make them unique.

obviously they aren't doing it 100 percent of the time, but it does mean that no leaf should be left unturned! sample that 90's pop song, that 70's electro, that timbaland rip off(only fair right?), britney spears, donney osmand, ANYTHING!
im sure theres a snare or kick waiting to be found somewhere amidst the filth.

i don't think it's any secret that a large majority of the sample packs out there are just recycled sounds. the only ones that are worth getting are the ones which have been specifically recorded for the sample pack. before i used to have the perception that it was retarded to get sample packs but since then i've discovered there are some really great packs (expensive) that have great top-quality sounds.

even the vengeance packs which are notorious for being processed net samples are worth nabbing if that's what you're after (highly processed and loud drum samples). like most people who work with software i have gigs and gigs of samples and tbh it can be a bit over-kill.

remember a large portion of pop music has great sounding samples that you can grab. i've sampled lots of stuff from linkin park and other nu-metal bands because i like the sound of it. i always try to dig for one-shots and not for loops.

while i still collect a lot of one-shots, i have a few sample packs and top quality refills that i can count on if i want great sounding samples.

then i distort and bitcrush everything so it's all irrelevant.

hey hots - what are the expensive / quality ones you mean? i'm familiar with a fair number of sample pack companies, but always love hearing about ones i don't know.

yea im referring to vengance packs i guess haha. theres a lot of shit in the vengeance but there are some good sounds "by" them as well.

btw by processed i didn't mean louden, just anything really, envelopes filters, pitching, eq reverb etc etc.
most often though its envelope filters and reverb when i steal samples  to make them unique

i have avoided sample packs too, but lately i have found some really good ones, its too bad that so many of those cds are 90 percent loops.... JUST GIVE ME THE HITS GOD DAMN IT.

its too bad i never kept reason, they had some really nice drum sounds. i guess ill just continue to rob minimal techno and funk songs

my idea: sp forums sample pack - half lofi filth half banging and crisp, everyone who is down makes 2 drum kits and like 4-5 one shots or bass loops, then we sell it to lesser forumz - :!:

well i use a couple of sample packs. i have a couple of amen sample packs full of different variations of the amen break complete with one shots. the gold-baby 808 and 909 kits are also great value for money.

another great sample DVD is by big fish audio, smokers relight. it contains loops but the drum sounds are super high quality. i use renoise and chopping within the program is no trouble so having all the loops there isn't that much of a hassle. like i said the drum samples in that DVD are super high quality, so between that, my amen packs and vintage drum machines samples (808, 909 and some older boxes) i don't really need anymore drum samples.

but i do plan on getting http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detail.html?1552 some time in the future. i'm sure the samples on that are also of high quality.

for refills i have reason drum kits 2.0 which is a brilliant drum library. i also have the official propellerheads piano, bass, strings and abbey roads refills. i don't really rate the strings refill but other than that all the official propellerheads refills are top quality. if you have reason i also suggest getting the electromechinical refill. it's a brilliant free refill of electric pianos.

i also have some of the miroslav refills for orchestral sounds. i think they are pretty good quality.

My biggest problem with one shots that are ripped from mastered releases is that they usually aren't isolated enough and typically sound truncated. Which isn't always bad depending on the sound design you're looking for. But a good technique to add more body back to these types of samples is with gated-reverb.

Check-it!
