isn't that like Dilla's signature? I recently heard it in some dude's track and couldn't help thinking what a rip-off it was and how uncreative. Why don't you go and find your own signature sound? Be creative!

Does that mean madlibs a dilla rip off ? lol

I think its all depends really, if you use the sound in a diffrent context ie a beat without the dilla swing and just diffrent style not a complete dilla jack its cool....but if its vise versa its not cool..
after all one producer cannot own a sound haha

one example is this dude elequent, he uses the sound but messes with the pitch and it sounds really cool....anyone who has heard any of the incolour serious will know what i mean...

Dibiase uses this siren in several of his beats and I don't think it sounds like Dilla at all. Like Moki said it really depends on how you use it.

I mean no offense to Dibiase, I love his tracks, but I still believe that that siren sample is something like Dilla's signature, and only people who were affiliated with him should use it.

Yeah but Dibiase also uses a lot of Dilla vocal samples in his beats. Gets a little too much sometimes.

I may not use it in a track but Pad 1 and 2 on my sp is always occupied with a siren and an airhorn cuz when you're playing back a beat you're working on and you really start to groove with it there's nothing like throwing a bunch of sirens and airhorns in there. Makes me feel like the hottest shit around :)

The majority of people just like to dick ride and act like they're on the next because they identify with a current beat scene, 9/10 of these people are brand new and are not innovative just because they decided to copy a sub-genre of music that isn't quite mainstream.

true, but how is using a siren sound copying a subgenre of music?

using the mentality that using this sound is biting stonesthrow people...you could sugest that it was infact dilla who was biting mantronix......

btw i have never used this sound in a beat haha

tbg

That siren is Dilla's ID for all his tracks...a long with Dilla Dilla Beats beats.. ALC has the Al Al Al Alchemist... and Babu has a few effects to ID he stuff. They are all dope if you ask me. J Rocc uses it all over the podcast cause it a tribute to Dilla Dawg. I am not sure if you found it yet...this post was a while back, but if not let me know. I have all those efx. Peace.

This post is out of hand.
The siren has been used by reggae dj's and dub spinners for decades
I don't think it is anyones "signature" sound.
Hahaha you guys are funny with the whole stonesthrow stuff
