hi
seen that the 606 and the 555 have the similar usb function with pc, i wanted to know from you 555 heads how do you do that, beacause personally i have this problem with the 606.
in details:
when i record from the 606 patterns/sounds/whatever to, for ex, ableton live and i want to do multitracking, everytime i hear the tracks/sound/whatever i recorded before coming trough the 606 via usb. no misunderstanding there: i want to hear what i recorded while i'm recording a new track.
the question is:
is there a way, a trick to do multitracking hearing what recording before but without make this passing trough the 606/555 usb?
have you got the same problem with the 555?

thanx

I'm not sure I fully understand your question.
As far as I tried my 555 as audio interface it was not working for multitracking. Let's say you have drum track recorded in Sonar.
Now we want to record bass guitar on another track.
Here comes the problem. If you set the audio source INPUT in Sonar = Roland SP 555
it will record everything what comes from SP 555 USB...
So you have to separate your recorded drum track so it wont be sent to 555's
USB.
I managed to do this like this:
In my pc I had old soundblaster Live 1024 soundcard that I used for playing
games and stuff.
1) I record drums directly from SP555 to Sonar on track 1 via USB.
2) Set the output device on track 1 to Soundblaster Live
3) connect Slondblaster live to external hardware mixer... now you should hear your drum track coming from your mixer.
4) connect your SP 555 line out (RCA) to hardware mixer.
5) Set your track 2 INPUT Roland SP 555 and output 2 NONE!!!
6) plug your bass guitar in SP555 and and Record in Sonar.
You will now record only your bass but all your audio will came from hardware mixer...
7) when you are done with recording bass lines you set Output device on track 2 to Soundblaster live and now you have both drums and bass on the same channel on your mixer and your SP 555 is ready to record another instrument on track 3 in your sequencer.
When you are done with recording you move on to mixing.
8.) Now you set all your track outputs to SP 555 and since it is connected
to mixer you should hear it.

When you record, set recording clock to soundblaster (I'm not totally sure about this) could be also SP 555... it's been a year and I forgot.
It is possible, Im 100% but you will need a some kind of soundcard in your computer... be it onboard or pci what ever you got it will work.
I know it is a bit complicated but it can be done. There are just a few clicks to change this input and output driver and you move to another track.
Now I have this nice Cakewalk Sonar V-studio 100 and I'm away from 16 BIT depth.
Hope this will help you, Crumb

thanx man
my suspects were right
the sp606 (and the sp555) cannot multitracking.
i thought it was a soundcard like any other; ANY soundcard can do multitracking...this is roland...

anyway, now i use it in conjunction with my old m-audio ftp via sp/dif and in midi sync, so i can record to and from sofware/pc with the same usb quality sound...
