hey guys

been trying to figure this out for over a week now. sorry if it's been covered elsewhere but i couldn't see it any other threads.

basically, i use my sp-555 as my sound card and i have an axiom pro49 also connected via usb that i use as my midi controller.

the set up is perfect, except that the sp-555 will trigger a note on the soft synth whenever i hit a pad and i've no idea how to get rid of it. the sp-555 is on thru and it's sync source is set to midi. the synth is on channel 1 and the sp-555 is on channel 2.

there may be a setting on the soft synth that i'm missing here. i'm using logic.

can anyone help me out? would be rad.

cheers,

matt

Make sure it's not set to omni mode.

hey thanks for your reply. sorry only just had a chance to check the thread again.

that could very well be the problem. i scanned the manual for 'omni' mode but couldn't find anything. how would one switch 'omni' mode off?

thanks heaps

Hey, no problemo.

I meant your MIDI settings in Logic - if the soft synth is receiving messages from all channels ("omni mode") then both controllers will trigger it. It must be something like that.

If the SP-555 is on channel 2, then it takes both channels 2 and 3 but it shouldn't mess with anything going through channel 1 - so your setup seems right as far as I can tell.

ok, thanks for your help again.

so my sp-555 is set to channel 1. my axiom is set to channel 2.

regardless of whether i set the channel of my soft synth to midi channel 1 or midi channel 2, both devices can control it, which is annoying. i don't understand.

i'm thinking maybe this isn't anything to do with the sp-555 but something to do with the logic synths after all. any logic users on here able to share some advice? may have to hit up logic forums.

cheers guys!

there will be a setting in logic somewhere called something along the lines of "respond to midi on all channels" or something like that -

or perhaps in the instrument track's properties there will be a setting saying if it responds to a specific channel or all channels.

Yes, the issue is probably in the settings of the soft synth or logic. Like sharpmotif said, omni setting would mean that the soft synth responds to all midi channels, so switch it to whatever channel you specifically want it to respond to, if this is the case :)
