They had me at velocity sensitive pads! Then the list of cool features just kept getting longer and longer. I mean 12 hours of sampling time on a 2 gig card, thats insane. The loop capture looks awesome. I don't care how much it is I want one now...

^^im not too sure about that. It looks like roland are trying to market these sp's more as live dj tools than grooveboxes. This sp-555 is essentially the same sampling and sequencing process as the 404.

true, sp's & mp's are two different machines... my bad, sorry 500... but definitely still can make beats with this... it's like 4 track style beatmaking or like an SP-808 but with more polyphony, pattern sequencer., velocity sensitive pads..i like to make music with this... dam i high... it took me 10min. to type this ish down...anyhowz, peace...

it seems like the same shit as a 404 except a little more of a pain in the ass - it cant run on batteries, it takes up more space, doesnt look like it even comes with an adapter.
the only good thing i see is the extra pads-
 and they got the pad numbers upside down.

Yo, this thing looks insane ! the loop capture is SICK ! its worth it just for that. Basically...it lets u resample patterns or external stuff. So, you can play your keys or turntables or guitar or w/e for 15 seconds over your current sequence ! This is so friggin dope. The mic pre with phantom is a nice touch also. not a big deal tho. 16 velocity sensitive pads and a roll button is pretty fresh. It seems like all the effects have been upgraded. to "fantom quality" w.e that means...hopefully it means a chromatic PS that works better and doesnt cut out all your high end :D

Granted, the D-Beam and phantom power for the mic (among other things) are gonna require a lot of juice, so one can expect an AC outlet only deal, but I think they could've made it portable if the SP-555 had a removeable lithium-ion battery in it...maybe.

Yeah, they are using the mpc system now. That thing has a lot of shit that I'll never need. I'll keep my 404. Funny shit is that in 2-5 years the 404 owners will be the the ones with the old school machine that everybody wants.
