Hi,

I sold my 555 but miss the lofi compressor effect. Can anyone help me identify a software or hardware alternative. Least of all there must be a chain of vsts that capture the essence. Its the dynamics I like more than any filtering or bit reduction. Whatever it was applied to would go loud and really in your face. It would also breathe so when the drums dropped out, the bass would fade a bit louder and visa versa.

Any ideas?

i don't have a 555 just yet but if it's anything like vinyl sim on the 303 then this plugin is directly modeled off of it -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6D9WvwMNr8

hey. thanks v much for the info. I knew somebody had to have modelled it. That vulf is expensive though. I would rather buy another sp-555 than pay $150 for a plugin! Plus i need it as a 32bit VST. I think I am going to try fx2100 here

I don't have my 555 anymore so I will be trying to recreate it from memory.

Thanks again,
Mike

yeah haha it is expensive. i don't use plugins but came across it the other day.
you could even meet the price point halfway between the vulf and the 555 and get a 303. heaps of other nice effects on it and it samples at a lower quality that gives even more character.

This all freeeeeee fck paying for that bologna. Plugins should be much cheaper than buying the actaul machine. my 505 cheaper than that mac only emulator. 5uck on my vulf

Hi HAWTKARL,

I am aware of free plugins that do aspects of the sound. The compression is very distinctive. That is part of the reason why goodhertz are getting away with charging so much!

There is a free wav editor that lets you process through vst chains - waveosaur.

I know it's possible to get the same sound using the right chain of vsts.

I just don't know where to start.

Or, you could invest $20 or 40 in your craft on a actual compressor at a junky used audio shop or thrift and cultivate your own uniqe sound

while we're on the topic..
i just copped a 555 the other day and i can't really figure out what ctrl2 does for the lofi comp effect besides 4 notches of loudness.
manual says its a filter...? pretty vague... any of you figured it out?

been using it for a few years now and to my knowledge it seems like it controls the threshold of compression and ctrl3 controls wet/dry. making ctrl2 does make it louder but it smushes everything together too gets kinda out of control

that makes sense. weird that they call it a filter with 4 notches though..
cheers magicsean!
