Hey there,

so this happened to me the second time now. i turn my sp on and when i try to go through my samples i have to format the card.
has this happened to anyone else? what can i do to prevent this?

i always took really good care after it happened the first time. always hit "cancel" four times to make sure no samples are being accessed.

thanks for any advice

Not a good sign- I would suggest a different card. I had diff prob when I got my 555 the guy I got it from had to send me 2 diff cards before I would get one that would be recognized but then never had an issue. Also I guess make sure your 555 has up to date firmware. I always make backups if I am working on a project and copy to PC as often as possible.

but yea, backing up is the key. you always have to go to the goddamn computer. feel like my eyes are tiny squares from looking at screens.

Also even though the SP says format you still may be able to copy contents to a computer and get a backup file off there or even banks etc. I know on 404SX backup files are single files ending in .bin

Basically if it asks you to format try copying entire contents to computer first- you may on your own or with help from folks here be able to recover all or part of your work. If you spend some time just looking through the folders on the computer you can see a -little- of how it is organized and for example locate the diff samples they are named by bank and pad and stuff like that.

You can corrupt a card by not properly removing it from your computer or SP555 (turning it off first before removing or inserting). On windows you have the "safely remove" option and on mac, you can just throw it in the trash to "eject" it. The updates have helped with many cards, but I wouldn't trust any Lexar cards as I've had bad experiences with those.

I never have any problems with SanDisk Ultra 15mb/s* and Transcend 133x. I'd stock up on all the CF cards you think you need, as it's a matter of time before they are obsolete.
