Sorry for anybody who wasted $ on a incompatible card, but at least we all now know what to look out for.

If I score a 555, I'll know what to order!

Hope you don't mind me necro-bumping a thread for my first post on here, but if you could buy one specific model of CF card for the 555, which one would it be if you were after (guaranteed) compatibility, as in 100% compatible, no issues?

I ordered a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II but then cancelled it after deciding to sell the 555. In hindsight I think I might have difficulty selling a 555 without a working CF card, and I've already gone through two cards without any luck so I want to make sure the next one actually works!

I found cards by a brand named Cloudisk that have the lowest speeds I can find (around 10-20mb/s), and have not had a single problem since on any piece of equipment. https://a.co/d/2MdBgnk

Cheers bruh. I Wouldn't choose it over a compatible SanDisk but I appreciate the heads-up.

No point me chancing the one you linked to, because it has to be one that's specifically known to work with the SP-555, and from the comments in this thread it's a very picky machine.

I found through some research that a lot of machines are picky in that they can only support up to certain read/write speeds. The idea is that those Cloudisk cards can play by those rules with their slower speeds, but it's possible they may not account for any other specific needs/format types so YMMV (looking at you Roland MS-1  )

Lol, exactly, that's why I'm not risking it again. Trouble is I already wasted money on two cards and if I do it again that means three cards, and on top of that I'll still have to accept a loss when I sell it due to it not coming with a card.

So fuck it. Normally I'd just leave it in the box and forget about it but I'm after one of those fancy new 3D printers so that I can prototype designs for a range of hardware I'm planning to produce.

I'm selling the ES-1 as well for the same reason. I like it but I don't use it and the money could definitely be better spent right now on a 3D printer and the one I want isn't cheap.

Plus, I have two Circuit Rhythms to keep me happy musically, so it's not as if I'll be without gear when I sell the SP-555 and ES-1.

Hey asha, just hasn't worked out and I lost interest after getting banned for fuck-all anyway

I'm going to need a 3D printer next year so I might as well help fund it by selling stuff I'm not using, and I'm just not using the SP-555. I think I've spent a few hours on it since I've had it.

That's nothing against the SP-555 though. In fact I'm even thinking of selling the Circuit Rhythms I bought recently because although I like them, they're not as fun or suited to my needs as the ES-1 + RoAT + PO-35 Speak combo is.

So I'm keeping the ES-1 paired-up with the RoAT and PO-35 SPEAK. I've realised now that I'll never sell any of those, they're far too good an industrial music combo to split up, and as I've said before, I plan to release experimental industrial music albums further down the line. If I can find a suitable analogue outboard EQ to add to it I'll even use the same combo to produce 'Box of Taboo' (which was what I secretly planned to do anyway).

But yeah, the SP-555 is for sale. Original box, original manual and even the original power supply, but it's not in the condition described when I was having fun with Crane and Danswift over my acquisition of it. It's not in "mint" condition, and while there are thankfully no bent pins, there's no card cover and no card supplied.

Replacement card covers can be picked up on the web so no biggie, and condition-wise I'd give it a 7 out of 10 (there's a few light marks and dings). No yellowing to the pads at all, they're like new. The knobs feel tight as new and there's no text wearing off the pads or buttons either, so again, like new in that respect.

Regards the card though, as far as I can tell (and since it's a '2GB Maximum' unit), a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II is the card needed, but I can't say with 100% certainty. I also believe a firmware update brought better card compatibility with it, although I have no idea what firmware it's on to start with and I've no way to MIDI it up even if it does need updating. I'd need one of those USB to MIDI DIN adapters to update the firmware from my computer.

The SP-555 does work without a card, but you only have access to the first two banks if you do that, so ideally it needs a card.

Well I suppose if I were to sort a card first, include one and put her on eBay I'd be asking around £400 and would be prepared to drop to £375 for the inevitable haggler.

Anyway, I know you mentioned in another thread that times are hard, so how's £250 sound?

Believe me mate I know the feeling and that's a seriously good price. Nevertheless I've never had a suitable card and therefore never been able to test card functionality, nor do I have a way to update the firmware for better card compatibility (should she even need to be updated at all).

I'm making this absolutely clear up-front, so that's the chance you take if you want her. Anyway, have a think about it and if you want her we can probably get it sorted next week.
