Hi

Just got an iPad mini for Christmas and one wondering if I can connect it to my 555 via the camera connection kit?

Thanks
Mike

it might work for midi over USB using just a usb to usb or maybe try a midi to USB then into the camera connector. best bet is to try it.

I was hoping to use it as a soundcard for the ipad. Route the XLR into my ipad apps etc. I don't think it will work but would love to be proved wrong

Connecting the SP-555 is no problem at all provided the SP-555 can transmit and receive midi/sysex data. There is an app for example called Midi Designer that will allow you to create your own controller. It's awesome.

For recording and looping audio, all you need is something like the Roland Duo Capture EX and feed your SP-555 audio into the iPad or visa versa. The Alesis iDock is great, BUT it's big and bulky. I know a lot of stage musicians who prefer a smaller footprint. There are alternatives.

The iPad music capability is growing immensely. The stuff and capabilities developers are coming up with on the iPad is quite different than with computers. I work with sampling, midi, sysex, and looping all the time with my iPads and external hardware samplers.

My advice is to get hooked up with the iOS Music scene and keep up to date on all the great stuff happening.

The only thing I can think of that someone needs to develop is a sample dump from Audiocopy or Audiopaste to the SP404/555, but I suppose that's what a pc/Mac will do already. Other than that, if you're a SP user of any model, and you're thinking of getting a iPad, I say go for it. There are synths/samplers/sequencers galore to dl and explore. You can usually try a program for free, or pay $2-20$(usually, depending on the program) to get the full version, but either way, you can fill your memory card full of sounds and use your SP to process them further!

I haven't gotten around to the Alesis iDock, but I can buy that soon, and then I can see if one of my programs can trigger my 505's pads, and even if it can't, I can mess about with some patches from both devices.

It's also very thin and light, so if you dj or perform live, you're really going to love what you can do with it.
