Hey I haven't been able to find anything about this on the forums already so I figured I'd ask. I bought a used 404 that works fine but won't turn on when the memory card is inserted or the external power cord is plugged in. It works with batteries and if I turn it on and then insert the memory card (eFilm compact flash 1G) it works as well. The external power cable is the one the SP shipped with. Has anyone else encountered anything like this. Like I said it still works, just getting sick of springing for batteries and constantly taking the flash card in and out. Any help or ideas appreciated.

Never heard that one myself, hopefully someone around here has an idea though. I have to put my mem card in upside down from the way the manual suggests in order for it to work. When I put it in the "right" way it acts funny and glitches, but I've got some of my best beats from the machine going on the fritz and doing it's on sample work.

Dude pay attention to where your posting. Try it with a different ac adapter, a universal one for instance. Also check the Roland site and make sure your OS is up to date.

If it's an original adapter and if it's ordered from a store and not something like eBay, I'd totally take it back to the shop for them to take a look at it.

It's most likely something inside the SP that's causing it to fail, having to do with the electronics near the flash card.

You know, just using the machine as is, might eventually damage it by the sound of it. I'd contact Roland for sure.

I did hear of a bit more people with the same issue; I'm thinking the 404 is just picky when it comes to the brand of CF cards, perhaps it's a voltage issue?
