I picked up some 100 MB iomega zip disks, which I was told should work with the sp 808, as its zip disk reader is for 100 MB disks, and that it will convert it to work with the machine. I popped one in my Sp and still got the "Please Insert Zip Disk." message. Does it take time to convert it? Or does this just not work.

They should work. I have never used Roland brand discs. It usually asks if you want to format the disc to the SP808 format when you insert a new disc. Hope this helps.

That's what I thought....

Problem is, when I pop in a Zip Disk(I've tried 2 different disks multiple times) it doesn't seem to recognize I've put it in. I'll pop in a Zip Disk all the way, the green light will flash pretty fast, then eventually flash every second. But the LCD screen will simply say "Please Insert Zip Disk.". It also doesn't recognize when I use Zip Check.
