Post subject: | Which SP should I get (adv + dis for each) |
Hey this is my first post, please tell me if this is the rite place to ask this anyways. Iam looking into getting an sp, I use fl at the moment but want to get some hardware . I like how some of the sp's are battery operated and I think it would be cool to make beats on the train to school and when Iam out and about I don't really mind how much I'm spending but I have narrowed my choices down to the 202,303,404 and 404sx 1) sp 404 vs 404sx WHATS THE DIFFERENCE 2) what is unique about the following sp's ? (what can they do that others cant and what can they do better?) (adv and dis of each) -sp202 -sp303 -sp404 -sp404sx 3) Which sp's can reverse loops, and chops, which sp's can pitch up and down without changing the length of the sample? (if not which can get the closest). 4) If I store samples on my ipod, would this make using the smart card on 202 and 303 obsolete ? 5) once you have finished a project on the 404/404sx can you save it and go back to it later to edit it ? 6) how long is the battery life on the sp's sorry for all the questions. would love to hear from you guys. send me some tracks as well, I am happy to give you honest feedback |

How much money do you have to spend ??? i believe that the best sounding sp is the 303, but I would rather own a 202/404 (and I do !) combo... If I could only have one sp I would go with the 505 because there is graphical wave editing with very useful features and a cool sequencer - this tends to make it more useful as a standalone for me.. I own a 505 to, the 606 is similar (and probably better because of updated effects) but I've never owned one the storage cards are more common on the 404 and 606.. the 404 sounds hard, the 404sx sounds too clean and has a lot of high end i believe and is not worth the difference in price from the 404 imho... but if you want the sx over the og you can def make it sound gritty and grimy the 202 has the best sounding filter and has true pitch control-no other sp has true pitch, high priced media cards (though you wont really need them because you can bounce your samples to another device *404*) and amazing lo fi filth. my recommendation is a 404og with a 202.. both battery operated and you will get the original sp sound with re-sample, sequencing, amazing effects and real sp feel my 2ยข |

og404 - better vinyl sim compression, no copy/paste function, compresses all sounds that it processes, smaller memory card storage (doesn't really matter) Both can export pads to the memory card* 404sx - couple more effects, copy/paste function, doesn't originally compress sounds that it processes, larger memory card storage I've never used a 202, but would recommend a 303 if it's a possibility |

I got the 303 & 404SX. I recommend you a 404SX, the workflow is easier & faster than the 303. |

404sx adv: faster processing (recording, deleting, resampling) couple more effects copy/paste function sub pad playback shuffling in pattern sequencer cheap memory card 12-voice polyphony Four times as many sound banks (cf card) and six times as many usable pads doesn't originally compress sounds that it processes larger memory card storage (+ for live performing) Pad export function Rehearsal mode in Pattern Sequencer Djfx is seperate effect button instead of being option 24 in mfx category bpm alterations either up or down, no click in sample playback dis: 1 lo-fi setting (excluding lo-fi mfx) Some effects (especially favorites on the original 404) lack same punch restarts sample when MARKing start and end points Unable to pin bar length of a pattern sequence back post-recording (positive this is the case with 0g404, still gotta check with an SX) Both have: MIDI IN (allows for MIDI Sync with other gear/software) HOLD function 303 adv: More versatile effects (imo) Able to record in sound from external source while resampling More tactile pads Continues sample playback when personally marking or manually changing start/end points Able to reverse sample playback during sample playback 2 lo-fi settings (long and lofi) Able to pin back bar length even after recording a sequence (originally recorded 2 bars but only want 1 type of situation) dis: slower processing less effects no copy/paste function no sub pad triggering expensive, archaic memory card 8-voice polyphony Only 2 memory card banks, with 8 pads per bank (much less physical room) Originally compresses sounds that it processes (initial compression softer than og404) smaller memory card storage (64mb max) no pad export function no rehearsal mode in pattern sequencer bpm alterations up will most likely sound the same BUT bpm alterations down result in a repetitive click throughout the sample might've missed some stuff, but should shed more light |
