Live, i want to play my SP-555 and I like dropping delays/glitching on top of what i can do with the SP-555's effects without the use of a laptop. I sold my Mini KP and got the KP3 hoping for more professional effects. Seems like its more to be used as a sample/production unit than an effects unit. As a SP user, I have no desire to get busy with the sample capabilities of the KP3. It annoys me that the KP3 adds delays on top of the looper and grain effects (and you can't remove them) and there is little to no documentation to assist with the KP3. Any advice one way or the other? Anybody get a KP Quad yet?

i tried the grain and the looper and if you do shift+fx release all down, the "unwanted" delay dissapears...
the "how to" is written on the manual.

That is interesting. Still, in a live setting, seems like kind of a hassle to hit shift and then toggle the release when I want to do some improv (although, now I am reading you can save this setting by hitting "write"). Not even sure Im happy with how the looper sounds. My manual doesn't even include the effects list.

I've been excited about the possibilities that the new KPQuad would be able to give, but I have no idea why the midi option wasn't included. My guess is that it'd be a nightmare for most producers to setup, or the size of the unit just didn't allow it to be included. If you're not feeling your KP3, then are you sure the KPQuad will be the answer? If so, they might let you trade the KP3 for the KPQ.

I may have to get a KP3/KPQ myself a bit later in the year.

Good looking out, man. Thanks a lot!

So what do you think? Do you have one strictly for effects and if so, do you use it live at all? Curious how you like it. I had a Mini KP and traded it with a hundred bucks to get this thing. I cant seem to not sound like a tard when I use the KP. Komplete Phail.

i have a kaoss pad2 wich sounds better than the kp3; i have a mini kp too. as i said before i wanted to use the kp3 for kaonome or kaossynth, 2 free softwares that (potentially) give kp3 more midi possibilities with the pads (=midi notes); but until now they don't work.
i like more the looper fx on kp3 than the ones on the kp2 however: on that ones (kp3) you can go back and forth with pads.
grain fx is very cool too.
the synth i like more on kp2.
sampling time is well made on kp3.
the resampling is a new cool feature too.
midi is more improved there than on kp2.

Im still agonizing over this. I like my SP stuff and want that to be my main live equipment, but i was looking for something for improvisational effects more than the "just one" on my SP. I recognize that the KP3 is powerful, but I'm bummed that it is hard to quickly cycle through the effects. I think this KP Quad would be good, but something tells me that it is going to drop in price while the KP3 will hold its value. Honestly, I wish the Mini KP got rid of the the delay effect on its looper and grain effects and it would be the perfect machine.

Hey man, it's not hard to quickly cycle the effects on the kp3 if you remember what number they are..

Hold down shift and it moves in 10s instead of 1s if i remember correctly.

Also the 8 slice buttons are used as quick-preset selectors so u can have 8 effects on speed-dial.

BTW there isn't always delay effects on the looper.. you only have the delay on if you want it on

yes, it's exactly the same as i said before for the kp3: you can leave or take out the delay, it's all written on the manual.

I just need to nerd out and RTFM. The manual that came with it is horrible, so I need to find something out there. My gut is saying it would be stupid and a downgrade to go to the Quad, but I will say it looks cool in a setup. I just wish it was about $100 less.

Thank you guys for the advice. Im happy to be able to glitch without the delays (fun to tap the "hold" button) and fade in glitching with the depth control. Cartesia, that was a big help on the shift+knob and button shortcuts. Its weird...the SP is really fun to figure out its button combos (kind of like Street Fighter combo moves), but between the manual and workflow of the KP its not coming as fun to me. I was this close to selling this thing and you guys talked some sense into me. SP Forums foreva, ftw!

Btw...Cartesia, do you have a soundcloud page or music I can hear of yours? Ellaguru, I already dig your stuff.

You might want to add a KPQ to your KP3, and your sps for some insane effects at your fingertips.

No probs man..

Nah I dont really have any music recorded  Still!

I had a bunch of stuff on my ESX that was probably good enough but I sold it recently without bothering to save the music...

At the moment I am without any gear really, once I buy my new stuff, maybe then I'll get to recording haha... I'm going on a roadtrip around australia in a couple months and taking a 404 + a little synth or something with me - hopefully get some music written while i am in some beautiful isolated places/etc
