Next week I'll have an opportunity to finally own my uncle's vintage, near-mint condition s900.

With 750KB of ram and a cumbersome build, this thing looks like it firmly belongs in another era and should stay there, but my uncle can get the craziest sounds out of it, even after 20mins of preparation and stacking samples.

Does anyone own one? does the workflow just kill the creative process? My Sp-404 is like, all I will ever need, but this is a chance to own a piece of history and maybe do it some justice.

the 900 / 1000 are quite highly desired machines.. whether you like it or not is a different matter but if you get it for a good price I'd sure give it a shot - if only because so many old tunes were made on these

i got one but don't really use it as i got no where to set it up atm. but yeh, def cop that. the filter is siiiiiiiick!!!! is really easy to use once you get over the initial curve. plus it is like owning a bit of hiphop history, even if mine broke i would never get rid of it, it jus looks cool haha

I own an Akai S950 and it was the first sampler that I bought.. It's a beast of a machine! I've been transfering old samples made in the S950 into my SP-404sx and they sound super fat. The great thing about these machines is that you can layer sounds really easy, filter stuff and change the pitch using the timestrech. All the samples are mono, but that's cool 'cos when I put them into the SP you can resample and turn them into stereo samples by adding an effect such as chorus or whatever... Trust me, it's a great piece of kit.. Boom bap Hip-hop in a box!
