I recently picked one of these 414's up to replace my laptop from being involved in anything audio, i got mine for $70 mint as hell, looked like it was brand new, i know alot of people on sp-forums are using the tascam series tape recorders, the reason for that is just purely because of that warm analog sound which is definatly missing from hip hop nowadays, theres was a reason why back in the day i only used to buy cassettes and listen to them on my walkman, its because they sounded so damn authentic, anyways I wanna know how you guys are using yours and what you guys think of them, share your stories!!!!!

i havent a tascam, but i got a yamaha mt120 and a mt4x.
i dindnt use them too much recently and i miss them: they're way of sounding/producing it's immediate and the fact you had external fx wile making the fianle mix (or boucing), it's the coolest part i like.
this is what i don't find in digital recorders.

So, do you record from the sampler into the Tascam, and then to a computer if you wanna out it on the internets?

argh, i want to get one of this too, but i'm worried that since the format is old, i hardly see any cassette tape around my city anymore, it's gonna be hard to find blank tape to record to. Also, tape recorders are known for generating more noises as the tapes get older. But despise all that, i still want to get one. I have no way of recording as of the moment.

I don't think that'll be a problem. You know, cassettes are rewritable ;)

Ellaguru has the tascam dp01. If I'm not mistaken it's a multitrack digital (with harddrive) recorder. This is how he's able to create a WAV from the mix and import to the PC. I don't think you'll be getting the 414 to do this ;)

i love the lo-fi sound of the tape mixed with the lo-fi sound of the 303/404/sampletrak, its a great setup which does not cost alot, basically what i do is just dump my audio from the samplers into the tascam, then resample back into one of my samplers and export the sd card back into my pc, thats just one way how i use the tascam.

Yeah I've got one that I keep at work to use on my breaks or when my boss is away. Pretty much every sound I make I put to tape then resample it, love it!.. a great little 4-track. I use it to resample patterns, pitch things up or down etc, etc... I'm an Analog brother innit bruv!

I've been recently using an ancient Tascam 488 8-track recorder that I bought from a friend for $15. I use it to record from my MS-1/202/303 and then mixdown and master to a Technics tape deck. Once the master tape is done, I'll convert it in Audacity or Acid Pro.
