I sold my interface in an attempt to disconnect my computer from producing some more..

It had a habit of sucking my attention into it halfway through when i was working with hardware.. id always be like "oh ab it of x plugin, and y, and z.. and all the other letters..."

Also I need to focus on just jamming, rather than getting bogged down trying to mix things etc.. I've got a great jamming setup now and finishing a live set by june is my goal - it's gonna be pretty freeform, so I dont really need to prepare specific 'tracks' for it.

good call man

i am moving out next week, gonna leave my PC at home.

will move it in eventually, but a few weeks to establish a computerless space will be great

i don't use it for any msuic at all, but having it there sucks me into web-browsing, forumsufring etc when i could be jamming out!

so yeah, also in the game for a recorder i guess

hi man
recently i reuse my pc for editing my sounds: eq and mastering above all. i must say that sometimes it is useful to "adjust" (the infamous cut n paste shit) some crazy jams if you dont follow any metronome for example.
other than that, i record beats and sound on digital or analog recorders in order to apply to a second mix some external racks fx (or SP or ST of KP fx: they are fx boxes too, dont forget this guys!)...
anyway, 2 questions for you cartesia:
-what kind of multitrack youre searching?digital, analog? (i own 2 digital recorders, the tascam dp01 fx, not bad, and the zoom mrs4, very portable but maybe a little noisy and 2 yamaha multitracks)
-what was your sound card?

yeah i had the same problem man...i have always used fl studio and love it still..SOOO underated...but anyway i just hate sitting at a computer to make music so i got an mpc and a roland vs 880ex multitrack and now i dont have to use the computer for anything but recording the master out of my vs...its been a blessing....i find that with a computer i make so many scrap projects just goofin around that dont go any where...just about every beat i started on the mpc i have finished or its almost done...i think it trains you to be that way.

Bump. I'm going through the same process of ditching my computer setup and getting a mixer and a multitrack.

I was wondering cartesia, what you ended up getting? I'm a little confused on what to get in terms of a multitrack recorder that keeps the warm sound of my 303.

Yeah, a multi-track will be very useful indeed, but make sure you've got a proper mixer to set it up all conveniently as well, as there's nothing more annoying than having to unplug things.

If you want to eliminate the PC in the equation, a serious multitrack will be a neat alternative. ( If you're going to spend a grand or more, I would seriously consider looking at the MV8800 though.. but I'm sure I'm getting old saying this. )

This is PHeMoX's answer to everything: Looking for a sampler? Get the MV. SP broken? Get the MV. Shoelace untied? Get the MV.

well the MV would definitely be out of my budget.

I'm looking to have an analog mixer going into a 4track. Besides my own producing, I work with a band and I'd like to have a few tracks recording at once. So I'd need a mixer with enough outs [3-4] to simultaneously record more than one track at a time.

Are there any mixers around $150 that have more than 2 outs for multi-track recording.

Perhaps something like Edirol M10-DX? Hmm on second thought, you'd have 2 outs + 2 digital outs I think, which is not that much. Great mixer though.

I haven't got a multitrack yet.. have actually been using my sp-404 as a multitrack recorder (recording one at a time)

Would be looking for a tape one.. keep it analog :)

And yeah I have a decent enough mixer already

Turns out Boss just announced a new multitrack, the BR800:
http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... rentId=325

This one comes with a version of Cakewalk that acts as a sort of cut down DAW running in real time with the unit itself (best of both worlds?) & looks like it handles recording multiple inputs assigned to different channels for easier live recording... Looks VERY interesting...
