Argh, when I load a sample into the s20 and edit it, it ends up deleting itself, anyone!?

you know, i see these things and st-224 and whatnot for less than 100 bones on the auctions here in Japan all the time. maybe i should start taking names and grabbin' for my fellow bloggers. there is also one called the remix88 (i thinks) that is the japanese version of the s20, i saw one sell for 5000 yen the other day.

anyway, i don't want to gain on this but i won't lose $$$ either. if you need something bad, i'll keep an eye out. lemme know!

sp-808s sell for hella cheap butttttttt.............
they're heavy and bad for shipping.

S20... fun machines it seems, they're cheap here too (Germany). I thought of getting one and trying to circuit bend it, and make a hell of a noise. Maybe I will!

It depends on whether you think using an SP-404 feels too much like riding a bike blindfolded. The SP-606 is by far superior when it comes to chopping samples, but the SP-404 has slightly higher polyphony if I recall correctly. Of course the 4-track sequencer with non-destructive ( I think, as it sometimes glitched a bit ) quantize makes the 606 a great sampler.

its a dope machine, ive had one at one point, i still prefer my MPC2000 classic though, its better off to get a MPC in my opinion, i would stay away from the newer akai MPC's, the old ones such as the MPC60, MPC60MK2, MPC3000, MPC2000, all have a much warmer sound, 12bit-16bit. As for the s20 its a dope machine but i find it very limiting, Akai has been known for their role in being the first sampler to have a waveform editor, but hey use what you want right, use what you feel comfortable with, you can find those s20's for 40-50bucks in pawn shops anywhere, there small units so keep your eye out before you walk right past them.

yo fam... could anyone upload an example of how the pitch sounds?
does it pitch in stereo or in mono like the 505? how wide is the pitch range?

would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help me on this one...

thanx

man... thanx. that was more then i was asking for. :D
sounds like a real useful pitch without any trash noises on the 'extreme pitch points'.

...oh does it have some kinda 16 level option for the pitch...? sth. chromatic?

do you actually use the s20 when having a mpc Simon?
...get at me if you wanna sell it... overhere there pops one up once a month only... how much did you paid for yours? here they go like 70-80€.
What about the internal memory, is there sth. to upgrade? if so, whats the max. memory? which kinda rams are those...? I don't get how you would save a beat on a floppy when the used (internal) memory is bigger than 1.44MB...

I just got the s20 and it's a nice machine so i don't think i'm gonna sell it, sorry man.
i paid about 80,00 euro for it and overhere there pops one up once a month to man.
the internal memory is i think 16 megabyte i guess but i never used it before.
but to be honest i didn't read the manual so i.
so if you can upgrade it i don't know sure, but when i bought it the guy said it was a expanded version so i think it's upgraded.

i gotta read the F*king manual hehehe

Welcome to the world of "proper" samplers. They all do that. Basically you assign one or more samples to a key range on the keyboard and just play the sample chromatically.

1MB ram by standard, expandable to 17MB. The last question is easy... save to SEVERAL floppy disks!

EDIT: RAM type is standard 72pin non-parity SIMM (known as PS/2 memory).

Post subject:  Re: akai s20: slept on so hard!

yeah right, beside the 3 mpcs i already owned, this might be the proper sampler addition to my sp's... cause it's so primitive...
... i just need sth. to pitch samples during the process... otherwise i'm set with my 'unordinary' toy samplers... toeachizown...
