Incase there are sum of u out there that uses any sorta Groovebox (Roland MC-??? or Yamaha RS 7000 or Korg elctribe ??) and need some adice or help in any way....PM me or keep the thread alive

Hi,I've recently bought an Electribe ES -1,Had a good look at the instruction manual but find it impossible to record a sample from the audio in jack via cd player.I'm beginning to think it maybe something to do with the internal memory.Be grateful if you or anyone can shed some light on this problem,Cheers

i rec samples in all the time.

make sure the switch is set to line.. set the level using the knob on the back of the es-1.. keep your eyes on the 'peak' LED on the front that tells you if you're clipping.

now go to sample mode

hit pattern set + record

then hit play to start recording/stop to stop recording..

after this you should have a sound recorded.. hit play and it should play back. do your editing, then hit write to select a spot to save it on, press write again to make the save.

make sure you dont have memory protect on

Thanks for your reply.Memory protection seemed to be the snag.I'm ever so glad you added this to your reply.Its right near the back of the manual a small section on memory. So was able to switch off,After i worked out how to delete a large batch of small drum samples which were already in the memory .it released enough memory space to sample some input audio,Success!Thanks again..

I've got a Roland MC307 and an Electribe ESX1. I'm new to the 307, but a pro on the ESX1. My question is about the MC307. This might be answered in the horribly written manual or by messing around with it, but here goes.

Most of the Roland Grooveboxes are the same in that they have a dedicated part for rhythm sounds. This makes it easy to mute different drum parts and it remains the same throughout your save files. My question is can you TR record (step sequence) each sound in it's own timing or is that regulated by the timing of entire track? For example, say I want a shaker sound to be sequenced in 32nd and I want my hi hats to be in 16thTrip, while the rest of my drums are in regular 16ths. Is this even possible on the main instrument parts?

On my ESX1 I can only change the entire track/sequence timing and not individual parts within.

Drewzle, thanks for the heads up on the blog. I went there when he first started posting, but I had forgotten about it until now. It seems he has a lot more info now

So does anybody know if individual parts within a sequence can have unique time signatures?

My only work around is setting the ARP to the signature I want and then recording it live. I just want to be able to Step Sequence things in different timings not record it live.

I'm pretty sure they can't, but i don't really mess with anything not 4/4

If I could have one part be step sequenced in 1/16 and another part sequenced in 1/32 that would be more then ideal. I guess I will just have to use the ARP to get things how I need it.

oh hell yeah - you can do that! On the D2 I just change the quantize settings before i record each part, you have 4, 8, 8t, 16, 16t, 32

is that what you mean? different resolution per phrase?

I guess I made it complicated sounding, but I want to step sequence in the different timings you mentioned above (4, 8, 8t, 16, 16t, 32) while still in the same pattern/sequence. I do not want to record it live using quantizing/arpeggiating. It's cool if I can't do it except it was the only question I had about these Roland Grooveboxes. Maybe the newer 808/909 can do this.

ahh ok that's different to having a different time signature for each track.

any 'proper' sequencer will do what you want.

electribes won't do it. I reckon the later roland MC boxes can, but not the early ones (mc-303 for example). e-mu command station, yamaha rm1x/rs7000

Thanks guys! I'll mess around with it a bit and get back to you. I'm pretty sure I can do what I want, but sometimes the 307 can be like the Red-Headed step child of the Roland Grooveboxes.

you can definitely do what you want with the MC-307, just set the quantize different every time you record. you can do a sweep of one channel in 16 then another afterwards in 32, the resolutions can be different every time you start to record.
