I suspect in the next few months there might be an influx of kp3 buyers judging by the market place.

Well what I want to share is that the kp3 can make a really dandy standalone sampler if you use this "trick"

so when you have a loop and you going into sample mode (shift plus sample pad) you get the virtual faders and 8 segment slicing.
what people dont realize is that each one of those 8 segments can be a loop in itself which means you have
4 x 8 = 32
UP TO 32 ONE BAR LOOPS!??
thats a bit more than the 2 of kp2
HOW YOU SAY?

well if you have a song at 90 bpm you will be able to fit 8 bars of beats on eachone pretty nicely but if not...

you can import the beat at 180 then in the kp3 editor set the bpm to 90, which will go from having the 4 bar sped up 180bpm loop being cut off to the full 8 bar slower normal version at 90 bpm. think of this as the classic sp-1200 tip, they would get around sample time by loading up the samples at a higher speed and slowing them down after. this is the same except the sample time is there, you just got to halve the tempo.

the beauty of this is that you can split your 8 bar sample into something like this
[1] basic loop w/0 high hats
[2] basic loop w/ high hats
[3] basic loop w/ extra perc
[4] fill 1
[5] complex loop or chorus loop
[6] complex loop with more
[7] fill 2
[8] freakout fill

here is a session using three sample pads
http://www.box.net/shared/xdna7453er

so essentially the way you will play this is by deselecting all of them except the ones you want to play. when you select another slice/loop it will start playing after the first selected one is completed.

so basically its like having 8 scenes in ableton live that you are triggering, and it makes it really simple and fun to track out complete drum parts as that is just using ONE SAMPLE above. if you have strictly highhat loops on another pad and more perc and drums on the other two samples, you easily have one of the most complex beat machines eveeeer.

just be weary that you can use effects like this but you cant change the loop and use effects at the same time so make sure you let the delay play out before deciding to drop the next loop, or have another sample pad with more drum beats.

or if you want to get crazy you can do this:
[1] random loop :|
[2] random loop :?
[3] random loop :o
[4] random loop :)
[5] random loop :D
[6] random loop 8)
[7] random loop
[8] random loop :!:

thanx for sharing this, it's exactly what i'm almost searching.
what i'm searching is something similar the 2 looper fx in the sp-404.
kp3 is not cheap.
do you think that kp2 can do somenthing like this with the bpm looper fx section?

peace

the kp2 has the djfx style looper, yes
there should be a pdf manual with all the effects listed if you google it

i take the 3 kp manuals (kp1, kp2, kp3)to see their differences, but the one of kp3 has no fx listed (s**t)...
anyway have you ever tried the kp2?
thanx

the kp3 has a separate sheet because there is so much

ive used a kp2 lots, they are fun and get the job done.

if i had a choice between the kp2 and minikp i dunno which id go with because of how sexy the kp2 is and how small the mkp is.
but id probably end up with the kp2, i would be VERY weary about buying it used though, the touchpad is durable but you still want to make sure its ok

between kp3 and kp2 i will surely choose the kp3, but the price is still too high. but between kp2 and mini kp i will choose the kp2 because for me it's useful the fact that you can also use it as external fx (send/return), and the same for kp1(but it seems it hasn't bpm looper sexy fx).

i finally bought the kp2 for 100€(142usd).
any of you knows if it's possible to play the funny kp2 synth via midi notes? i didn't find anything in the manual.
anyway this is possible also in the kp3?
thanx

you can't trigger them with midi notes. the kp3 can only recieve CC messages 0-127 that affect the x/y and the notes affect the ABCD samples.
you could technically do it, but you would have to have a midi translator change the CC messages to actual notes but you would only have an octave.the synths are an after thought really .

however if you do the sample modes you will get some VERY unique results, as it uses granular synthesis which is rare in hardware

kp2 has it too i believe, in the sample mode where the touch screen triggers the sample recorded

radiohead used it for vocals but you can make gnarly bass sounds and percussion

yes, i agree.
the fact you can resample your synth manipulation is a good feature. the kp2 got this too.
but i thought it was a more "open" machine (and the kp3 too...).

other question: do the kp3, in the bpm looper mode, can go back and forth to , for example, 1/4 to 1/8 to 1/16 and viceversa? for the moment my kp2 don't: it only goes from 1/16 to 1/8 etc it doesn't accept to go back...to do that you have everytime to leave your finger and suddenly re-press the touch pad back in the desired point...
...the stange thing is that i see number change (from 9.9 to 8.9 to 7.9 etc and from 1.9 to 2.9 to 3.9 etc) in the display but i don't hear changement...
