it's arrived!
first impression: easy to use, don't know how elastic is the way to compose kits as the xr20 does.
no sensitive pads, i confirm. great filters. mute/unmute good (you can do it for every single instruments!). rev/delay ok. flanger is a monster. boost is dirty! don't know if we can edit the "pitch" of the instruments.
ROLL is fantastic: you have 67 ways of fill, triplets, phrases etcetc
d'n'b and jungle kits are killers! hiphop's good. house/techno ok.
"groove" function is weird and interesting.
the bass is not that bad as i tought.
the pads are a little hard than to the sp-303/505 and, i think, more similar to the sp-202...but they're nice and good.
the beast is not heavy, with battery works ok.
i payed 50€+5€(acdc adaptor)=55€.

not bad at all...

Found one in North Philly for $70 two years ago. I haven't really done much with it except for sample some of the drums in my Casio RZ-1 and then throw said drums in the 303. I'm curious to pair it up with my SP-303 for some budget boom 'n bass.

Post your SP/DR concoctions!!

The pads are the worst I've ever tried on any piece of gear, but the sounds are mostly good. The percussions and kicks are not the best. There isn't really that much variation between the different basses (arguable I guess). I do like it tho...

if you still have your sp-808 you can midi it up. the cat drumatic from sp1200 forums released his early beat tapes from back when he rocked a dr 202 midi'd to the sp-808... just a thought.. peace

i actually tried that first and i got the midi clock to sync up so the sp 808 comtrols the dr 202 when i hit play and stop and the tempo matches up, but the sp 808 ddoesnt send out midi noted when you hit the pads and the dr 202 is old and the pads dont hit as nicely. i think i still might try and hook it up to the 8080 and let the dr 2020 pads control my samples and ude the sequencer in the drum machine since the 8080 has no sequencing. ill probably run into a bunch of shit, im a midi noob. and now i have a 606 on the way and i know im gonna wanna hook it up midi style but i gotta figure that shit out.

well i think i spoke too soon. the metronome is for shit is this thing making sequencing kinda gay. i realized that if i put the pattern into 4/4 and set the metronome to lets say 90bpm. the ticks are slow as hell like its ticking with a bpm of half that (45) so i set the beats to 2/4 and it ticks like it should but the amount of measures you can have gets shorter and the limit is 8 measures. so on 2/4, 8 measures is like a 4 bar loop when i want 4/4 and 8 measures to get a whole 8 bar loop. kinda gay in my opinion so i might just stay away from that. i got the thing hooked up to a midi keyboard with pads since the 202's pads suck ass and ill just sequence it out live to my 808. the sounds are great tho. but thats about it. old machine.

awright you bastards. i am ALSO on the DR-202 bandwagon now.

after years of looking at this thing and debating whether i want / need it, i found a good enough deal on one and got it last night. haven't had a chance to REALLY drill into it, but i like the sounds on it so far. it is ridiculous, in a good way.

i will let you know what's up when i get more time w/ it. FUN!

surprisingly imo the drum sounds are nice on the 202, you just have to hook it up to a mixer to pump up the volume a bit, cause off the bat the 202 volume is low... at least to my ears they were..

That's a pretty solid price for an SP-303. Seeing as how the ones available on eBay go for $225, the $150 opening bid price is hella affordable. Not only that, you get the DR-202! Only thing that's missing is midi cables!! Someone should cop this set-up!! I would but I already have both of those buggers!! Speaking of which, I need to cook up some budget boom 'n bass!!
