I just got mine last night.....woo! Love it as much as I thought I would. The more I play it I'm sure I'll love it more & more.
So far only thing I got frustrated with is the pops & clicks, but I know there has to be a way to avoid it. Sometimes it would click at the loop point & nothing was even recorded. Other times I could play sounds over the loop point & it wouldn't click. Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, but I've read on some forum it can be avoided, just gotta figure it out.

& holding down record while playing chords or drums..... but per your post above there's a way to set it to record. Gonna look into this.

I'm going to have a fun weekend!

Found out how to keep record going without holding it down.

OP-1 guide: One of the best manuals I've come across -

yo .. @Sharris .. yea the way it drops back to the start of the loop got me annoyed a few times. not sure if your unit got the upgrade ( ive heard mixed reviews about doing it ) but i think the older units have had conflict with updating . theres extra features in terms of sound engines which is nice.

i broke the mic input by dropping mine in the first couple of days .. yikes . but diy'd fixed it . would have cost enough to get it fixed ..

if you vocalise .. thats a good feature .. being able to record over the top of loops

Roland should take note .. if they release a new SP .. they should deffo have an evolved system of operation without making away with the 'SP efficiencey' .though trying them out i avoided the MPC Live .. which im glad now .. i think its work flow would have bored me by now

The guy I bought it from said I needed to update the os (not sure which 1 I'm on), but I'm not in a rush to update it. I heard mixed reviews as well, so I'll probably do a little more research prior to updating it.

That's great you were able to fix the input! Yea, this is 1 of the most expensive items I have, plus the fact that it's portable I made sure to get a case to reduce risk.

I'm mind blown by all the features, so many ways to do things & it's so experimental. & yea, I DO vocalize (well I used to A LOT, but beat making took over & rhyming went to the side lines), being able to record directly to tape is awesome. There's just so many possibilities with this thing.

I love MPC's, but I see why you picked the op-1 over the Live. This thing is crazy!

A few months ago I dropped my ipad & completely smashed the screen. Decided then that all my portable stuff needs to be protected! If it had a case it wouldn't have broke.

Yea, the op-1 seems pretty solid, it was heavier then I expected (in a good way, feels like a metal case). I heard people had issues with the input/output breaking (like you), so I'm trying to be careful when plugging cables in & out...... that's cool you were able to fix yours, I would have been freakin out!

Glad to see the OP getting some love. I've had one (two) since right around the time that they launched and it has hardly left my side since.

I love hooking up a mixer to the input and recording straight to tape as a super simple and sexy 4-trk for minimum setup scratch pad recording. Having a bunch of random audio scattered around the tape makes for sweet sampler food.

Being able to change the tape BPM and speed is always the shit especially after recording a few minutes of random drum freak outs. Resampling from the tape is absolutely golden.

Go get it, y'all!

Yea I'm in love with it.

That's a great idea usin it as a 4 track tape recorder. Not only for the reasons you mention, but I noticed it glues the sound...... I know, I know it's a "tape recorder", but I didn't realize it actually emulates a real 4 track. & dumpin the tracks into a computer/ipad/tablet is fast.

The Op-1 is special. So many uses. So many work arounds. I love it's sound character. & for some reason it's really easy to play unquantized on it, I was surprised, I thought it would be harder than pads, but it's weird..... maybe it just gives me a good feeling, which makes me play better....not sure.

Oh, & since I updated it to the latest os, no joke, all my pops & clicks are gone. Went thru 4 tapes without a single pop or click.

Yea the Op-1 is officially my favorite piece of gear..... sp404sx & MPC 2500 are right up there too.

I haven't used the Op-1 really WITH the 404sx, I think they would go amazingly together. But in my defense I have been playing with my gear less these days, I recently got a social life haha & it's affecting the amount of time I spend making music.

I used to join atleast 1 battle a month... I haven't done a battle in awhile :(
