Surprised by this one. After all this Aira and Boutique crap this thing looks interesting!
No direct sampling, but they sell it as a drum machine... It defintely has groovebox qualities.
Best new Roland product for years.

It's $699.99.
Samples are loaded with a memory card, but you can't record samples directly into it.

That pretty much covers it. At first it seemed like they added all the stuff that people complained about with the Korg EMX and ESX and stuck it all in a box, it seemed pretty sweet. The killer for me is only sampling (sorry, adding samples) with a SD card. I'm guessing this was done to keep the "new" SP-404A relevant. Because if you could do it all in the TR8S, who would by the 404A?

Hopefully the price drops drastically on the original tr8 so I can pick one of those up to play with.

That’s Roland for you. Two steps forward & 2 steps back. I know someone trying to sell their MPC 1000 for this. I have a feeling he might regret it?

I have the feeling that you may be right !

Also with regard to the TR-8S.. apart from the hands on controls and variations of a dedicated unit, shouldn't Roland actually be focusing on making the sounds better than a sample pack you could have on more or less any sampler or computer?

Just a casual thought...

Sell an MPC 1000 for it, no way, I wouldn't. For sooooo many reasons. But I'm a big fan of MPCs. I love the workflow & they just..... fit me. Like sp's.
But if he doesn't like his MPC & wants something COMPLETELY different than an MPC, I guess that makes sense. They're so different.
