we have to see how it sounds and also for the new mpcs, live and x, same thing...
anyway, this one, the elektron one, costs 650 usd...not so cheap indeed...but cheaper than the mpcs...

I really dig the little box, Elektron is working to make this an easy-to-work with device. Its an entry level sampler with 8 polyphony, 8 audio tracks and 8 MIDI tracks. If you thought the Octatrack was overkill, then this will suit your needs. Its also designed to be the centerpiece of your set-ups with its MIDI capabilities. The sampler section has everything needed from pitch-tune to editing waveforms but I have not saw in full or in action.

So far, there's only the prototype at NAMM but from whats said, its a machine to sample stuff and make beats. With audio tracks, its definitely a remix machine too so the Octatrack's timestretch might be in this. I may get this over the LIVE but I'll have to see more from both camps.

this looks really promising imo.. if it allows batteries or if it carries a li-ion pack or something that would make a plus for me.. but heck 650 flippers is already expensive for me :d

Its up for preorder at sweetwater already. Still the same info we know and no price yet.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Digitakt

I was deciding on getting the Digitakt but lots of things turned me off like all plastic buttons, even the pads are plastic, not rubber. It just plays one shots, so you gotta toss the samples in the sequencer to get them to loop and such. Only 64MB RAM too. Kinda too much for $650, when SPs and Electribes are less.

damn, i cannot hear that in 2017
i m still nervous about the old electribes, wich play only in one shot (execpt with some workarounds) but, guys, that was 2005-2006 and such!

...very very weird to hear that now

I know, I need pads looping not making me trigger it every 3 bars, I use enough one shots, I only have two hands.

I was thinking of buying this over the Live but now I just gotta see it in action to even consider it. Right now, I'm turned off. It also has a 16 step sequencer, so don't let me get started

Yes, you can say that. I found the interview at elektronauts, this will give you a huge insight on what to expect with the Digitakt.

Q: What is this 'Digital engine'?

A: The digital engine refers our high quality sample playback engine. We have taken great care in our implementation to ensure that samples are played back and transposed in a musical and great sounding way.

Q: Are those pads or buttons?

A: They are high grade plastic, laser engraved, button caps that allow the mechanical RGB illuminated switches underneath to shine through. The switches are quality mechanical linear action key switches that will last a very long time, and feel great to use.

Q: Is that an OLED screen?

A: You bet. It is a contrast rich OLED screen with a 128x64 pixel resolution. The GUI is designed from scratch for the Digitakt and the new screen.

Q: This is just a small boat, where is our flagship?!

A: Why not both? We have not stopped working on 'big' projects.

With the Digitakt we are finally dipping our toes into a more economic and simple instrument, which is something we have been thinking about doing for a long time.

Q: So what's in it for me, who already owns This or That?

A: It all depends on your workflow and preference.

The Digitakt offers a streamlined approach to the Elektron workflow, and a clear set of functionalities that will allow you to focus on your creative goals.

For those who want to just sit down and make beats, compose and play around with samples and sampling - the Digitakt will be perfect. The simple, yet very competent functionality and the small, yet rugged footprint makes the Digitakt an apt companion for both your bedroom and the club.

Q: Is the sampling fast and straight forward?

A: Yes!

Q: What about the MIDI sequencer, is it polyphonic?

A: The MIDI sequencer has the same great features found in our Analog series, such as Trig Conditions and Parameter Locks. It features a +3 note offset on every step so that you can sequence chords. (Up to four notes)

Q: Mono? 8 tracks? 64MB? Isn't that a bit meager for 2017?

A: The Digitakt is designed for working with drums, both in one shots and sample chains. The mixing per track is in stereo, so you will be able to spatialize you drums to your heart's content.

The Digitakt also has a Project structure, which means that you have 1GB of storage to load 64MB of samples to each project. Loading and saving projects is a breeze, and will keep things tidy for you.

Regarding the track count, keep in mind that these are 8 sample tracks of our Elektron signature sequencer, with all the bells and whistles from its bigger siblings. Each step can be locked with a different sample and parameters.

We work with proper embedded processors and hardcore programming to achieve a stable and extremely responsive instrument. We believe that hardware should be hardware, and not a computer in a shiny case.

And lastly, there are more details to come. See you in April.

Cheers from a suddenly snowy Gothenburg!

Well, Elektron has changed plans and made the Digitakt a sample based machine. Its looking dope now that more info is coming out at elektronauts.

I preordered one on the note I can return it in 30 days with money back guaranteed if I don't like it but it definitely sounds fitting for raw boom bap beats the way they explained the machine.

Thanks Ellaguru!

Yo, this is everything I wanted, like the rebirth of the MS-1. It has oneshot, loop, reverse and resampling. There is no timestretch but you can pitch samples to fit the beats, crazy. I just wonder how it sounds, Elektron says Cenk is making videos of it at this time.

Sorry haven't passed by these weeks but I got the Digitakt just last week on my birthday and been hanging out at elektronauts to understand these machines.

This my little verdict so far.

It samples easy as an SP. Hit the sample button (which is the waveform button) Sample vinyl, trim as needed and then assign to pad. Making a pattern is like working in the MV8800 because its 8 audio tracks and only one sound at a time which is not limiting by any means, with p-locks you can create psuedo mute groups with that limitation. Also, there are tricks where you can put a bunch of sounds on a single file and using P-lock for the start and end points that will trigger each sound independently, kinda like the SP Mark point trick with long samples but without the hassle because its not a work around but a full fledge feature.

Also, you can create tracks with a single sound. Its power of manipulation can turn a cowbell into a drum kit, basslines, synths, instruments etc. There videos now of single sounds turn into songs. Its crazy. Need to get deep with this, its different than an SP indeed but you can feel that same enthusiasm and innovation the SPs had in their day. Digitakts just might be the new SP of the new generation the way it mangles, manipulates and creates sound. Only 3 fx though but its mind blowing what can be done.

If it only has 3 effects, then keep your SPs around, and use both!
