Just bought one of these Korg kaos pad KP3 things. Its very fancy with its touchscreen L.E.D craziness, but apart from that it just seems absolutely wack to me. The effects don't sound very good at all. Its fun to make a basic beat with the live looping but basic is just that.

Is there something i'm missing with this? I've seen them in a lot of setups and thought about grabbing one for ages. But i'm very disappointed with it

i picked up one used a few years ago and kept it for maybe a few months.. i couldnt really figure out what to do with it.. sold it to a friend who LOVED it.. he made funky noise beats and would use it to loop stuff on top of drums he made on another device.

i have the kp2 and the 3
i found that the kp2 has a warmer sound, but the kp3 has lot of better fx more. also chopping samples in beats is funny (i don t speak about the cool loop fx): if you go in sample edit, then you ll know what i m talking about, i mean, you can divide loops in 1/4 or 1/2 or 1/8 etc from the start or the end of the loop by pushing one or more of the 8 mini pads of you choice, and choosing the parts you prefer, also the "non continuos" ones. this means, for examples, that you can create new loops on the fly by choosing pad 2+pad 8+pad 4+pad6 etc, this is cool.

Yeah ella that was the reason I bought this thing really. It can be real funky sometimes when you cut bits out of the loop. But its usually pretty shit with the start and end points then with a nasty click

Yeah, I had a KP3 for a few months as well and although I liked it, it never really worked for me as something quite stand-alone. It's one of those machines you need to have hooked up to additional gear to really be worth it. It's a bit weird though, because I'm sure you've seen the craziness people like Birdyman can do with a couple of Kaoss Pad 3s combined. The device never quite clicked like that for me though.

I have to say now that I love this thing and it has awesome pitch shifting capabilities. Glad I kept it

Yeah, I have the KP3+ & really like it. What I mainly love about it is the fun factor, I think it's a lot of fun to play with. & once you get it down you can do some crazy shit with it.

I have the kp3pro, it sounds great, was neat for about two weeks. I wish I would have gotten the KP3, I like the idea of routing the entire mix through and use for fx. Look up Ace Of Hades on Youtube , he freakin kills it with the KP3

Yeah I have mine hooked up to the group outs on my mixer & have it goin into either my sp or MPC, so everything I sample goes thru it & when I record a beat (mutes, effects & extra 1 shots) it goes thru it as well for the 'performance effects'.
I get a lot of use out of it. I'll admit there are a good amount of effects I don't use, but the ones I use I like a lot. It's a great performance tool.

I’ll definitely be looking at a KP3/KP3+, or possibly a KPQuad for more FX processing since my S20 & soon to be home MS-1 doesn’t have any FX. But it’s interesting that with a memory card you can layer up your samples into a few pads. I’m not so sure it’s whack, since they’re still in production for Korg. But I wouldn’t necessarily feel I got ripped off until I’ve tried using one.
