hello wise people of the SP forums i am looking for your council on this.
as in title i need a recorder, it should ideally have the following features:
1.)be mobile (i move a lot and AA batteries i get for free)
2.)have fx and shit to play with, as many knobs faders buttons and or other sensors as possible
3.)be of decent quality as in it doesnt break when i carry it in my backpack wrapped in a towel. good preamps would be cool ofc but more an extra in my price segment

it MUST have the ability to record more than 2 channels though. the application i would use it for is a project where i work the SP busily while 2 others are rocking mics, AND i want to be able to process these three parts individually after the recording in the recorder itself if possible, so basic editing tools are needed

any recommendations?

Check out the tascam portastudio dp008ex. That's what I use, it has 8 channels and reverb, compressor, limiter etc.. Not sure if it has enough effects that you're looking for but it does have the ability to record two separate tracks and bounce them to combine them into one track so you basically have as many channels as you could ever need. Also it's only a little over $100 and it's very small, smaller than my 404.
I'm not sure if it can record more than two channels at once though, I've never tried it. Good luck!

yea thats a cool recorder but wont do the trick. and there is a shitload of cool recorders with everything i hope for EXCEPT being able to record 3 or more tracks. BOSS BR 800 can record 4 tracks and ZOOM R 16 or R 24 do 8 tracks at once but these are really expensive.

I know you said the R16 is too pricey but it might be worth saving up some bones in case you find one second-hand. They are really nice recorders and the editing is decent. You can record all eight tracks at the same time (and then play back those eight to record another group), which is pretty nice.

I used it to record a jazz band I was in, mostly our in-house sessions with just a few mics. Always came out better than expected.

(I have a Zoom H4 recorder that does not fit your bill. Wish I had experience with more recorders but the R16 is good shit, for the (used) price for sure.)

You can always record the beat and bounce it down to one track.
Then get a mixer to plug in the mics and record it to another track.

yes i have the facilities to do the beat beforehand and just press play but then i can do nothing but wave my hands and no interaction with the freestyles. the R 16 is looking better evrytime i look at it, but maybe if im saving up i save up a little more and get the R 24, i think the built in samplerthing might be really fun. anyone got something to say on the samplers usability? i think its exactly the same as in R8 right? im sure some of you use that.

one of the mcs has the H4 too or was it H4N i dont know exactly. quality is nice but editing is a pain to me
