maybe get the 500 to drop the chops from the 404sx (pure effected) maybe tweak slightly .. then drop sequence in the 500 ..solely to drop tighter patterns and freedom to create different transitions of a beat ..

anybody use the 500 on the regs ..

ps fuck controllers .. I'm on my hardware-nology

i had one mpc500 in 2009
important thing: it was my first mpc; this is important because the many submenus discouraged me (and the very strong pads too) and i sold it very soon to buy an mpc1000; with this last one i learned more how to build patterns and songs on mpcs, to load/save etc...so now i could use an mpc500 better...
the sound is cool, however.

Have 2 of them. Bought one at launch day and the other in 2010.

Coming straight off Roland/Boss SPs, the 500 kicked my ass and I couldn't even make a beat with it. I hated it too after a while but I just kept it in its box for a year until one day I said fuck it and beat that machine into submission. It way different than an SP. Instead of Pad Banks, you have programs which is cool because when you tweak a sample inside the program, it doesn't affect the sample itself, just the sample in the program. Unlike SP where the sample is tweaked. . .its tweaked. However you can personally edit samples in Trim mode.

Also has the coveted Pitch Tune to slow or speed up samples.

For me, the 500 is for those with ingenuity because the manual only tells you what the 500 has but not so hot on how and when to use them. The stuff I found was on my own like the hidden loop feature, sampling while playing a sequence and many others. I got threads at mpc-forums check them. They're called ninja methods thread.
