VARI PITCH SAMPLE

1. record a sample you wanna use pitch in a wierd way
2. under BPMSYNC put that sample in pitch change
3. hit the tap tempo once to see it on the screen
4. hit your sample
5. mess with FX CONTROL 2

QUICK EFFECT RESAMPLE

1. choose a sample (like, PRESS IT)
2. add an effect you like
3. sampling mode (make sure resampling is on) (ORANGE)
4. choose either loop/oneshot/gate sampling mode
5. arm sampling (GREEN)
6. press on your sample key (same as 1)
7. your old no effect sample is now effected.

RESAMPLE PATTERN

1. create you pattern.
2. arm resampling, then press sampling (orange)
3: set your sample mode to loop
4. make sure that you set a threshold/note-on to trigger the sampling. set the leng to 4 bars (or how many you want!)
5. arm sampling button (green).
6. press play on the sequencer

KEYGATE SEQUENCER CHOP

alright so the microsampler lacks a mark button, and chopping by percent can be a hassle. the keygate is also not as cool as i thought it would be due to need for silences (it's still pretty dope though.) here's a workaround for mark-style chopping.

1. get your sample looped how you want
2. put sample into sequencer
3. put resample on, keygate on.
4. press play on the sequencer and the key you want the chop on
5. stop sequencer
6. press play, again, next chop, etc.

ULTIMATE 1 KEYBOARD PART WORKAROUND

alright so the 1 keyboard part can be a bitch. usually what is recommended is resampling the whole pattern and laying the next keyboard part on top, but as any SP user probably knows you can't adjust levels after resampling. here's a different method.

1. create your pattern, lay keyboard part on top.
2. mute EVERTHING EXCEPT keyboard part.
3. resample just the keyboard part
4. delete keyboard part off pattern from step one
5. now just start the pattern, push the key with the keyboard part on it at the appropriate time, and you have the keyboard part on the pattern, the keyboard mode is now free, and all levels remain adjustable.

Woa dude that's a pretty slick move.

rabot - this is awesome. i'm gonna mess around w/ this this weekend.

i have a n00b question though: i cannot figger out how to do the pattern re-sampling. i feel like i'm missing something simple, and the manual isn't helping. can you share the science? here or PM or whatever?

dont know if you guys have seen this yet..

tried it once on the homies microsampler, kind of an annoying process and takes some practice but its a lot of fun.

fauna - i dont think you can resample patterns, could be wrong tho

RESAMPLE PATTERN

1. create you pattern.
2. arm resampling, then press sampling
3. make sure that you set a threshold/note-on to trigger the sampling.
4. arm sampling.
5. press play on the sequencer

OPTIONAL STEPS

3.5: set your sample mode to loop
3.8: (while doing the adjustments BEFORE sampling) in the length of the sample put like 4 bars so it actually loops perfectly in time. thats one of the beauty of the microsampler, you can cut shit to fit EXACTLY to the master tempo. or timestrech shit to fit exactly to it.

does that work for you?

ah, that is wicked! thanks rabot! maybe my threshold is set really low or something. will try this this weekend too. i appreciate you going thru the steps.

it's not really a "trick" but what i love doing with the MS-1 is droning a chord in one range (say, string pads in mid-range), hitting hold, then changing to another sound to add over top in a different range (lower or higher). with some phase / flange you can get really thick pads that seem to oscillate, or find sounds with particular frequencies that cut thru without overwhelming it all.

That's interesting!

Also you you could set a note-on to trigger the sampling aswell!
Do you know what I mean but setting something to trigger the sampling?

oh yeah, like using the note-on to trigger the sample start? yeah, that's a good idea. i actually hadn't even thought of re-sampling this drone-apalooza, but that could work too. then add to it with more drone.

could make SUUuUuUuuper fat waveforms.

yup, sample a C from a synth.
slightly detune de synth
sample that other C
add effect
sample another C

resample them all togetherr

so i bought one of these right when it came out, whenever that was. i really enjoyed it. one of the things i didn't like was the process of deleting a sample. haha i know that sounds like a dumb thing to have an issue with but when going through a menu process can really mess the work flow up, that was the only thing that bugged me. i can't remember but can you sample straight to a key that already has a sample on it? i think that would fix my issue but i have no memory if that is possible. i'm sure i probably tried it but i can't find it in the manual.

Yes u can 7th city. IMO the only things that require menu diving/extra work are fine tuning effects and chopping/trimming. I do hate trying to read the LCD too.

Post subject:  Re: KORG MICROSAMPLER TRICKS AND TIPS

Yeah, just resample, or sample over the original sample!

Yeah triming, fine tuning and pitching are the thing make me me fiddle around the menu a bit. I sometime mess around with effect aswell.

I'm gonna do a video soon on how I work with my MS1 / 404sx / Shruthi-1

Post subject:  Re: KORG MICROSAMPLER TRICKS AND TIPS

that would be cool, rabot. there are not a lot of good MS-1 vids out there and (IMO) the manual is terrible.

note: if you have any tips n tricks for getting perfect / non-popping loops with the software editor, bring it on. i usually use cool edit pro to find loop points / zero crossings, but i still find that things pop with the MS-1. i usually have to fiddle around with it for a long time which gets frustrating.

is there a count in on resampling?
