What yall think bout SU200? I already got a SU10 and i'm thinkin bout buyin the SU200. I heard it can match the tempos of loops automatically..Does it use time stretching or does the pitch change too? Thats the only thing on my mind rite now..
Oh i forgot. Does it have any midi issues (like 224)? I'd control the sampler through my drummachine.

hi man
the su200 is ok but i heard that when you apply fx you cannot use them with hifi samples, i mean, you can use them but you loos many quality or you half the bpm of the samples (depending on the fx applied).
i thought it have a pitch scale function like the su10. i think you cannot configure pitch in any other way.
it is conceived to work as a "slave" machine (it has only midi in), i don't heard of midi issues.
it has not a sequencer. you play and resample samples, basically. after that they go in sync (internal sync) whit a special feature.
i think that ,globally speaking, the su10 has more editing features than the su200.
the only midi issue i know for the st224 is that you can play samples only in gate mode. the rest it's just blah blah

This was a sampler everybody at www.sonicstate.com reviewed and warned me not to buy, but did I listen? No. I got it home, spent 3 hours with it, and found it just a pos and a horrible, horrible buy. I took it back to the shop and swapped it for a sp303.

It's just a nightmare to use, and you'd be better off with any sp series or a akai than this unit. Hell, even the SU700 would be a better choice. You don't even get alot of sample time even if you can locate a smart media card for it, and I couldn't even back up a sound to a card. Forget it, you don't want this, trust me.

How i can get a sample's tempo to be exactly 63 BPM? (for example)
On ST-224. It rounds the sample tempos up/down..

click on the corresponding pad where the sample is while pushing the bpm/tempo button: this tell you the bpm of the sample.
after that there are 2 editing ways to change the sample's bpm.
1- tuning.
this is a function that let you change the (REAL) pitch and so the bpm of the sample
2- time stretch
this is an effect that let you change the bpm of the sample without changing the tune (pitch). is it similar to akai s series timestretching in matter of sound.

now i have one su200
i bought it cause i was curious about it and it was very very cheap.
i can write a rapid review
pro
loop track play:
this let you play the su200 as a sort of sequencer (it also could be synced wuth external machines by midi), you can use the 3 banks as 3 different patterns, with 8 tracks (samples/pads) each other, and do the mute/unmute thing of those "tracks", wich is cool. you can pass bank by bank like sequencing on the sp404, it's quite the same. however, here you have not a real sequencer, you have 8 loops that play per bank (pattern) at the same time just as tracks. every loop/sample is synced at the same looptrack tempo, like on sp505/606 bpm sync function
effects:
"loop remix" and "slice" are very cool, they let you totally remix/stutter samples; "filter" is ok, "tech mod" a sort of lfo/tremolo thing plus ring modulator effect.
ribbon is cool for control fx (you also have 2 knobs to do that) like on the su10

other
editing is ok (start/end point, delete, truncate, reverse etc)
scratch is the same as on su10, not that good
time is a sort of timestretchin live, but very noisy (and you cannot resample it)
you can copy samples between pads
you can import/export wav (cool!)

cons
you can sample at different grades, but you can resample at 1 grade only (!!)in mono (!!)
pitch scale is ok , but you cannot reample it(!!), you can only play with it alone, don't know if it's possible to play it by external midi machines (on the su10 it was possible)
timestretch (job mode) is quite ok (...i have to retry it better...)
you cannot use any fx with hi recorded samples (!!)
one effect per one pad (!! you have an "hold" button to walk trough pads to apply fx or select/unselect)

this is a machine for entry beginners level, but WITH A COOL COMPRESSOR OR PREAMP IT COULD BE COOLER. (volume not that high in my opinion)

Updates:

good
-you can resample while Loop Track play is active.
-the su200 works also with batteries, that's explains (in part) the low volume (but sp202/404 and su10 got batteries too, and their volume is OK!!wtf...)
-you can use ribbon controller not only for scratch but also for fx, and you combine the 2 (well, as i said before, scratch is not that great, but for LoFing/Glitching is maybe ok...)

bad
-you cannot play pitch scale by external midi sequencer.
-Time is not effective while Loop Track play is active...
-(a confirmation) you cannot us fx on HI grade samples...
-you have limited time for sampling (20sec in HI grade mono,1minute circa in EXTRALARGE grade mono , the smartmedia card is here only for storage (wav import/export or data import/export)

weird
-while resampling a stereo (mono?) HI grade sample, causes the pitch and bpm 1/2 of it, wich could be at time cool at time not good at all...
-sometimes (when samples are at maximum volume or at different grades, depending on the type of samples) samples played simultaneously can causes weird noise

i paied mine just 40€ (45/50 usd more or less), so very very cheap, my advice is: don't buy it if you have many other samplers and for more than 60€

Bought it , played for 2 hours, sold it...nice sound but limited and not worth as a standalone sampler.

I think Yammy dropped the ball on this one. Every time I think about the time I actually spent my hard earned money on it, I immediately had to return it. I had no luck using a simm card with it, found it very painful to get it to do functions even the SP202 can do easier/better, and I decided the same day I bought it just to swap it for the SP303 instead. I was lucky the store I bought it from understood and were ok with the swap. Anyway, if you really can't find any SP's or any other samplers in your area, and you stumble on to this, I guess you might buy it, but if you read the bad reviews on http://www.sonicstate.com/synth_reviews/yamaha_su200/1/ you may just decide to not bother. It's a bit of a shame, because it was supposed to be about the size of my DX200. But I refused to be stuck with that pos, and it had to go.

yes
in the same period of the Yamaha su200+dx & an200 couples, Boss sorted sp202+dr202, they were supposed to go together as rythms+samplers machines...facts say that after those tries they both sorted out rs7000 and mc909 wich incorporated groovebox+sampler...
anyway, the only things i like on the su200 are the pseudo seq, the fact that you can silence waves (not midi) and the Remix fx (but as i said before you cant apply fx to hifi samples...), so buy it for under 50euro -and as Headphones said if you cant find no samplers in your area- or let it go
