Well as it says. I just bought a new sp 808, and im really desperate to see what it can do as a synth, Ive tried hooking it up with an psr e303 Yamaha keyboard. And it controls pads fine, But not the synth.

Could someone please advise me on how to set this up.
Thanks

you can't I dont think.. the synth is technically just an 'effect'..

that's how it is with other SPs, I dont know the 808 specifically.

By default the Synth patch is assigned to channel 11 and the pads are assigned to channel 1. You can control the synth with any sequencer (Ableton Live  ) or controller. I use a AKAI MPK and I can control the samples from the pads and the synth from the keys. The synth is a 2 osc, fully programable with delay and reverb, only monophonic and will not respond to the pitch wheel/lever but you can bend notes in the step modulator. It can be alot of fun with an arpegiator. Im finding out now if it is possible to midi map controls to c1 - c6 to control filter, cut-off, delay, etc externally but I do not think it is possible. you can use the step modulator at the same time too. The synth with step modulator is one of my favorite features. You can get sooo sick with the synth, just select your patch and press shift and efx to change wave forms and knob functions. You can even assign it to its own track 1-4. Hit me up if you got any questions.

im having the same problem. i have a m-audio axiom 25 and i set it to globally be channel 11 like the synth effects on the 8080 but it didnt work. ive never got midi to work so i always thought it was me. may there be something im missing. set your keyboard to the same channel as the thing your trying to control and that should be it?
dont know.

Try this:

Make shure cables are from 808 out to controller in and controller out to device in.
set Midi device to common channel 1
in midi parameters set pads to ch.1
select a syn patch like P73 SY:70step2
play notes on the controller and you should hear the pads play as if you were pressing the pads.
select controller ch.11
controller should now play the synth.
