Its running, and sampling very very long things without a problem...

Now i think im going to use it as a controller for cubase and ableton live, using the transport buttons, the wheel, the faders and mute and track rec buttons, and maybe the pads with ableton, aint know...

it will be a very big controller but worth it i think...

how you getting on atmasingh? still hacking away?

i would be happy to pay for this if you figure it out! if you can't , perhaps we could all chip in and hire a coder? what you all think?

I've had this sp808 so long now I really don't want to part with it. But would be so happy to never hear the sound of that bloody zip drive whirring around again!

Hi all, it's been a long time ive been here but it's really good to see that you guys succeed as well. Just wanted to add that you can go back to the orig OS for sp-808 ex with zip-drive if you for example want to make samples with the synths and rec to pc to after load back to the hard disk or play live with the D-beam cause that doesnt work anymore under the OS of A6 but i had to first go back the the orig sp-808 beforee i could get back to EX but i dont know how that works out for you guys, keep me posted! (I already swapped like 3 times but as i us a longer ide cable that comes outside , and the harddisk is inside out, i can very easy switch, only plug in the zip and change os and voila...And also good to hear that the harddisk works with the onboard power supply ;-)
If anyone needs the manual or OS for the A6, sp-808 or sp-808 ex then let me know, i have it all plus all the rest like smfplayer, orig soundbanks , converter and whatever.... (which you also can get from the orig roland side but he) ...and one little extra ( apart from all the V-tracks hi hi), the veri-pitch button is in the edirol A6 the Wave-view button!
Till next time and i get back when i find any news!....Bye all...

[quote="Beat bender"]Hey people! I did it!

My ROland Sp-808 now is a Roland A-6 VideoCanvas!
I have 9 hours of sampling and i don't hear anything except the samples flowing out the machine!
80gb 5400rpm seagate 2.5" IDE-ATA

It is amazing to see a 80gb disk working on the SP-808..Da*m that is crazy good news :D ....Ive spended much time on following the debate on how to use CF and HD media on a SP-808 and it seems that it is no good choise to go for the CF reader as "Phemox" said.. the CF cards is now higher Gb only and it would cause problems :? ....so now i recon there is really a way to get a 40,60,80Gb HD..and a A6 OS and some minutes and love with the conections and then Voila' one got a HD equipped SP-808!! :D

I wonder is it possible to do the same implant on the newer SP-808EX....is this HDandA6 conversion gonna take away som functions?? :)

Beatbender Ure a hero i think :)

hello all
great great news if it works !

So, someone else tried to make the stuff ?

it would be cool to have some sort of tutorial in pictures one day
:D

but when Beat bender said:
Quote:
""Ill try this night with the 808ex OS and ill say something! ""
and
""No problem with the update""

would he mean he made that from the sp-808ex update or the A6 update ?

H i:) As i recon "Beat bender" has tried the HD conversion on a SP-808EX with success!?...and i argree with "55cancri" that a tutorial with pictures would be helpful to minimize risk for failure or damage :) Ive tried to PM Beat bender but so far no reply..so i vill be happy to contact him..ill vill try to reach him on his e-mail.. :D

Peace

Hi. I've read through these posts and you seem like more help than the people at Roland or Edirol. I've recently bought a Roland A6 but it does not have the Hard Drive. I was hoping that someone could please tell me what type of Hard Disk I need to find/buy to get it up and running. Even Roland could not tell me this so any help would be great!

SO

Beat bender gave me a little précision

I quote his mail, hope he will not blam me, dont think so
He said that:
"""""""the hard drive has to be a 2.5"inch, because the lil disk for laptops use only 5volts like the roland. you need a old laptop disk, no sata, IDE!!!and you need a convertor for big disk to lil disks because the ide conector inside the roland is for a big disk, but a 3.5" disk is 12volts, and the roland is 5volts...""""""""

and we hav to open the machine but it seams to be easy
for the missing functions, I dont know, I imagine some effects less, no beam...

voila

someone to test?
