I successfully got the addonics cf drive working in my sp808ex.

http://www.addonics.com/products/flash_ ... didecf.asp

It just doesn't have a good mounting plate. other than that with my 1gb cf drive it gives me an hour of record time at 44.1. It might only be able to see 512mb of it but at least it works!!!! No more ZIP DRIVES!!!

That's a major upgrade to a 808. I'm sure your beat life will be a little easier now.

I need to run some more tests though with playback - but it formatted it correctly and then I went to the sampling section and saw I had a crap load of time.

So I wasn't able to store samples after formatting, I tried a 64mb cf card, and a 1gb card...After sampling the system locks. I got it to successfully sample once and then on playback the sp 808 froze. well back to figuring this out, it might be a thing with the cf cards, but at least it recognizes the drive and I can format.....nothing else...I will do some more work around this..

in other news I have a cf drive coming from mpcstuff soon and it should be almost identical to the iisdmc reader that does work in the sp 808....cross fingers...

*crosses fingers*

i wish you luck man, i'm really interested as to how this goes. i've had my eye on the SP-808 for awhile, if there was a known way to rig a hard-drive into it i'd grab one pretty quick. both the 808 and the Yamaha SU700, two great instruments that need a good upgrade to 'modernise' them

good luck, keep us posted

Heck yes... the new SP-707 or SP-777 or whatever they will call it, must have lots of SP-808 and SP-606 stuff in it, but in a modern way.

Anyways, good luck to s0le on his mod, hope it works.

definitely Phemox
with high speed/high storage CF cards being affordable and commonplace, the next SP ought to have HEAPS of storage (ideal for live shows), hopefully Roland give us more pad banks to increase the amount of samples we can have, as well as their size.

if you convert the 808 to the A6 OS you can run a harddrive in it but you give up some key functions.

me curious too .
Anyway I am pretty sure that this is a problem of the flashcard and not the drive. What Drive And what card are you using now?

i apreciate pioneers in modding but, seems like so few people (if any) have had any luck with hooking up a cf card reader or a hard drive to the 808 thus far, why even try, why not replace a broken zip drive with a good working zip drive, do you really hate zips that bad? do you really need an hour of sampling time? what the hell are you sampling full movies?
