Dune here again. Trying to get a workflow going here. I'm starting to get a good feel for the 808 but still lacking many basics.

I have a sample that I would like to use but since there is no 16 levels setting on the 808 I'm trying to find the work around for achieving different pitches to a sample so that I can create a melody.

I've now learned the copy paste function with the clipboard. Which I really dig. However when I go to change the pitch on the copied sample, the sp also changes the pitch of the original sample not to mention all the rest of my samples including my sampled drum one shots.... I'm sure there must be some way to get this done appropriately . anyways thanks again in advance sp dudes

You are probably talking about the vari-pitch, that affect the master output, which unfortunately can't be resampled, but can be sampled to another recorder then put back in the SP.
So if knowing that the vari-pitch value from 50% to 100% is an octave, you divide 50 by 12 (notes scale) and you get approximately 4,16 - 4,17, so each note is separated by a 4,16% interval.
If you need a two octaves scale of a sample (one up and one down), you have to sample in the SP with vari-pitch on at -50% (it will turn your sample to an octave up) then turn it off, and record the sample again. Now from the pitched-up sample, with vari-pitch on, you go each 4,16% down (100%, 95,84%, 91,68%...etc) and sample it to a recorder (tape, DAW...) same with the non-pitched sample. Then put it back in the SP, of course you can sample only the notes that you need. After if needed "shift+level" to finetune the sample. Note that the "shift+level" pitch maintain the sample duration, so it deteriorate the sound.
Not that easy like in the MPC or DAW but it works. :D
