hello,

is start to learn with my sp 303 and i have a problem.
i can´t record samples over my 1210er.
there is no signal and the sp 303 record nothing.
there is only a small signal when the chinc wire is on line out.
how can i sample sounds from cd, mp3-player, or vinyl?

sorry for my bad english

thanks

You can preview the audio coming in by pressing the "ext source" button...you should hear the record or whatever else playing then if you have it all connected properly. when you are ready to record a section of sample you press the "rec" button and you should hear the audio, the same as when you press "ext source"...except you then select pad to record sample to and the recording setting "stereo", "long", "lo fi"...etc

hope this helps, if the problem is deeper than that I am not sure how to advise you

1) Make sure you connect the output of the device you want to record from to the INPUT of the SP-303 (yes, that seems to be a common mistake). Refer to the manual.

2) For recording from a turntable, you need a phono preamp. Otherwise the signal will be very quiet and sound badly EQed. Use a DJ mixer or an amplifier with phono input as a preamp, if you don't want to buy a seperate one. There are some new turntables with inbuilt phono preamps, but those are rare and I doubt you have one of those.

On a side note, I don't get it how people can record directly from a turntable, as I've read some people here seem to do. No SP sampler has a phono input!

3) For recording from a line source (CD Player, TV, Playstation, etc) you don't need that preamp. That also means, do NOT use it. Just for the turntable.

Personally I haven't found the need for a mixer/preamp to connect my turntable to my sp303. but I'm probably not using the type of table that most on here are using. I'm using this crosley that my parents never used so I took it. Ain't a regular DJ turntable:

Sounds fine to me when i sample vinyl from it.

Sure ain't. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT rofl.

Seriously though:

"Technical Details:
...
Auxiliary Input/Output"

Means, it does indeed have a phono preamp built in.

Yeah I didn't include that detail in my post but I use my mixer as an intermediate b/w my 303 and turntable for the same reason the others in the thread stated

   @ the Crosely!!!

 I can't front though, I had something similar by Grand Prix, but it was a turntable and double cassette combo. Had that for my MS-1 back in 1997 and that was pretty much my set-up back then. That thing even had a 3 band EQ and I made mad raw beats. But the needles on those type of things are ceramic and wear out fast.
