So, I tried to update my 303's operating system, because it was acting funny sometimes. So I plugged the 303 via MIDI cable into my Digi 003 rack, and I downloaded both of the OS updates from the Roland website. However, as the data was transferring to the sampler, the LCD screen started flashing ERR. When I turned it off and back on, the screen would not turn on, and the samples would not trigger. So I plugged it back into the computer and did it again, and it flashed the exact same ERR message at the exact same spot as before. I tried a few different ways of transferring the MIDI files, I used the updating program from the Roland website, and loaded the 8 .mid files. I also tried using ProTools to send the .mid files, and the same thing happened. I've searched all over the internet but I cannot find anything about this problem. Anybody got any suggestions?

I would buy a cheap smart media card reader/writer and try loading it that way, that's all I can think of but I can't say it'll work for sure. You might want to call Roland and see what their thoughts are, but that sounds bad. I found my card reader/writer online for about $10 so that might be worth a try. I know they charge more than the cost of the whole sampler for a replacement chip board if it's fried which is highway robbery.

have you tried initializing the 303? You hold down CANCEL, DEL, and REMAIN all at once while you turn the unit on, and let go when the display reads "INI". REC should be blinking. Press it, and about a minute later, the unit should be so fresh and so clean... clean. :D

so many of my friends have unintentionally corrupted their 303's, whether by turning it off when their high-on asses accidentally start deleting an important sample and they think they can stop it by cutting power, or someone tripping over their AC adaptor in the living room during an impromptu jam session (yeah, we do that)

however, none of my friends ever bothered to download and read the FREELY AVAILABLE FROM ROLAND (or here, for that matter) SP-303 Owners Manual, so they'd flip out, panic like the sky was falling, and call me up begging for help. CANCEL, DEL, REMAIN, power, and life was good again.
