when i am recording from a turntable through my preamp mixer, i can't push the volume up very high without distortion coming from my speakers, and the peak volume button lights up. i am recording from the main output of the mixer (because there is no effect send) and then playing it back out through the other channel, i dont know if that would cause feedback when trying to record. is it the sp or the way its hooked up? thanks

If I understand you correctly
its hooked up:
turntable>mixer>SP>mixer

if thats it then its probably a feedback problem.

yeah i am, its a crappy 2 channel mixer, no effect send, so using the main amp output is the only difference between the way i set it up and what it shows in the manual, but yeah i could see how that would make distortion on the track. the wierd thing is its only when i try and record a sample. im not sure how else i could set it up to hear both turntable and sp.

turntable>mixer>SP>amplifier/speakers

you can turn on ext source to hear the turntable and sp at same time.

if there is a trim on your mixer lower it a bit . even lower the outputs of you mixer, you shouldnt need much from the amp cause you can juice it up with the input knob. combine this with the techniques above and you shall have clear audio. if not you might want to try a diferent amp to eliminate the amp from the problem.

this is how i do it.

turntable > receiver > sampler >headphones

then flip it around to this to make beats

sampler > reveiver > speakers .

you always want the leastest amount of middle men.

and cool waves loud enough to cover any hiss. dont juice it up too much save that for last the final eq and limiting.
