I could really use some help on this one. I recently purchased an SP-303 that (knowingly) does not work. It powers up, but just displays the number '8' on the screen, while nothing else works. Does anyone know if the SP-303 would have error codes? Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting what the problem is?
Also, I have no Smartmedia card, but this shouldn't be an issue w/ the internal memory available, right?

your best bet is to upgrade the OS
which i think you will need a card for

sometimes reloading the OS can stop it 'hanging' like it is

Unfortunately no luck with the smartmedia card....got one today, but the 303 doesn't recognize it. Also tried updating the OS through a midi sequencer and no luck there either.
Any other suggestions out there?

I've just been given a non-functioning SP-303. On Dismantling I found the Switch board to be irreparably cracked, (cracks across a whole bundle of 0.5mm tracks in a couple of places.) Maybe we could get one functioning unit from our two non-functioning ones? I'm pretty nifty with a soldering iron if you don't want to do it.
